Loose skin

Ok, so this is a tad on the humiliating side, but I really want to know what you all think. So, about a year and a half ago, I was really ill with Anorexia, and I weighed 84 pounds. THEN, I went to a regular doctor, and he really thought that I could never recover my weight on a raw diet, so I went back to vegan for six months. In that time I gained FIFTY POUNDS. I had huge edema issues as well. I have come back down in weight a tad, about ten pounds since returning to raw. I worked out the entier time, and also still do. I lift weights four times a week, do cardio six days a week, and also I am in Ballet school for about an hour and a half a day five days a week. I am building muscle, and am eating alot of raw protein, but I have alot of loose skin all over my body. It is not lumpy looking, but I can pull at it and grab it in my hands, and then it bounces back and looks relativley normal once I let go. SO, I was wondering two things. I still have pretty bad edema (I can gain like ten pounds in one day!) what should I do about that, and also, will the skin go back to normal ever do you think? Ok, thank you for listening.

Try MSM powder/capsules. It really helped tighten my skin after I lost weight, and it made my skin glow!

Well I take MSM as well due to severe hip busitis but MSM is not going to be what is needed for this problem. I found a good atricle on Edema that you can find here ( http://www.aafp.org/afp/20050601/2111.html ). I dont know much about this problem so I wont be able to help too much. I have loose skin from having a child and plan on getting surgery for that.

A couple things concern me about your posts and I could way off base here but I'll give it a whirl. It's hard for me to read anyones post when they have gone through SEVERE E.D's. Sounds like there is ALOT of recovering to do. You mentioned the loose skin looks normal when you don't pull at it so I'm thinking to myself "A recovering E.D gal really nervous about some skin that appears to be normal when not being pulled at" So I am questioning if there is a problem or if there are some weight issues you are struggling with and in your ED mind you find it as a problem.

See I could be way off but I know ALL about the ED mind and the problems it can create with the body image.

Are you being treated medically for edema and what has your doctor said? (Not that I always trust Dr's, but they may offer a direction to go)

Give more details is what I'm sayin' :)

    Cheers and god health!

Hello! iliveyourdream That article was great! But now I am a bit affraid that I have heart problems! I was tested when I was ill for heart problems, and it was kinda off, I think that it just wast not beating very hard. Also, I have had yellow palms and what not since then too... So maybe my organs just need to heal! I know that skin description might sound like frightend ED girl, but I showed my sister yesterday, and she was shocked! It is quite strange, it is just like a layer of extra skin all over my body. I have not seen my doctor in a few moths, and generally he kinda just treats me like I am just a bit crazy, becasue of the ED, he kinda just thinks I am over reacting or trying to find some reason for me not to have to eat. But, this is why I wanted to ask others, get a second oppinion. Thank you!

yah, unfortunately, if you have an ED and a doctor is treating you for it, no matter how long you have been recovered (even years and years) they will always look at you as such. Just like if your a drug addict. No matter how long you have been clean. people will still look at you like a drug addict.

It does sound like you have some health issues that need to be addressed. What does your diet look like? Are you 100% raw???? It sound slike your organs are not performing as they should so this is why I ask? If you are raw, whats your fat intake?

    Cheers!

It must be hard to be a doctor, it would be difficult to know if your pacient is being honest with you, after dealing with them as an ED pacient or drug addict. So I do understand, it just makes it a bit harder. I am one hundred percent raw. I eat raw protein powder, about 105g a day, because I am really active. I work out on my own and I am in ballet school five nights a week. The rest is veggies (I eat cups of spinach, tomato, cucumber, cauliflower green peas ect.) then I have some berries, flax seeds and flax and or hemp oil. That is pretty much it. I do two tbsp of ground flax and one tbsp of oil each day.

i would get a copy of the 80/10/10 diet asap. i would follow that diet. if you have any questions, i would ask dr. graham on http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/index.html

i would schedule a consultation with him on http://foodnsport.com/

  • I think you need to get your hormones tested. I have Addison's Disease and a lot of the same issues you are describing. I'd say it's hormonal, especially the edema. The raw food diet will definitely help, as well as coconuts and maca, but you might need to find out if it's your adrenals or thyroid or something else and then you can start eating things to nourish that particular organ. Knowing what to target has helped the healing a lot for me.

    Good Luck!

Thank you so much everyone! Zinfandel- do you think that all the fruite would be ok for me? I just worry about teh insulin spikes that may cause me to gain crazy amounts of weight again. I have been raw for over two years, minus about five months when I was first starting my recovery and my doc wanted me to be cooked vegan. I think the hormone theory makes a tonne of sence. I will get on that Asap. Thank you again all!
