Juice fasting? Or feasting?

Hey everyone!

I'm really new to the concept of raw food - but it seems to make a lot of sense. I want to be healthy and strong and not have all this ugly fat covering my body. (I'm looking to lose about 30 pounds, and to keep it off!) My skin could use a lot of help too.

I've read some about juice fasting, but a few places I read said juice *feasting* was better. Let me see if I've got this right: Juice feasting is when you consume your normal amount of calories, but all in liquid form? And what constitutes a "fast"? How much do you actually consume on a fast? And, (The biggie for me), how much, on average, do you lose? And how quickly, or slowly, did you lose that weight?

Which, based your experience, is better? A feast or a fast? Any advice is welcome!!

    It's all the same thing. Some people refer to it as a fast, I do, personally because I believe a fast is the absence of chewing, and letting your digestion system rest thus promoting healing from within. Some people believe that it is not a true fast because you are still taking in calories and nutrients, so they call it feasting. I say call it whatever ya like cus it is still doing your body an amazing amount of good, no matter what the label is =)

    The amount you lose depends on a) how much you have to lose b) how sluggish your digestion system has been c) how active your body allows you to be during your fast/feast...there are some days when you will experience a "healing crisis" or detox days and they really are no picnic but the temporary discomfort is totally worth it cus it means your body is chucking out those toxins deep in your cells!...but you will not feel like doing a whole lot during those days. There will be other days when you get an amazing feeling of well-being and energy...don't overdo it on these days but enjoy it! Try and do some light exercise and/or stretching to keep the lymph fluid moving and helping to flush out the toxins. If you are having no bowel movements because your digestion has stopped, which usually halts peristalsis...its recommended that you do enemas (at least one a day) or drink a laxative tea. You have to "keep things moving" on out of your body, otherwise all the dead and diseased, toxic material your body is trying to get rid of will stay on the inside and your body will re-absorb it and make things uber hard on your kidneys! Don't skip this part, no matter how unpleasant it is!

    If yu have never done a fast before I would recommend starting out slow and easy. Maybe 3 days to begin with, but I would not recommend going over 10 without direct medical supervision. I've done numerous fasts but I still get under a naturopaths care for anything over 30 days.

    The only other thing I can think of at the moment to tell you is to watch out when you are breaking your fast...that can be just as important if not more crucial than the fast itself!! If you fast 3 days, you will want at least 2-3 transition days where the first day you eat only one monomeal and then the rest your typical live juices. 2nd day, 2 monomeals and the rest your regular juices and a green smoothie, 3rd day eat all raw plus your juices and green smoothies.

    If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask, I've been doing this for awhile, so I might not have been very clear or left something out.

    Oh yeah...and you have a juicer...right? The juice fast is based on live extracted juices that you drink immediately upon extracting. :)

  • Yes there is a difference. A juice feast is consuming your daily calorie intake with juice and a fast is consuming less than your daily calorie intake. On my last juice feast I consumed about 2L of vegetable juice and 1L of fruit juice a day. I couldn't finish my 90-day fast though because I felt like I was going to vomit if I consumed any more vegetable juice, but it helped me a lot! It cleared up my skin, got rid of my bloodshot and groggy eyes, and I felt a lot lighter! I wish you the best and let us know how it goes!
