I'm Going Raw Today!

Hello! I took the entire year of 2009 to prepare for going raw.

I started experimenting with plant based diets when I was 18 in early 2003, I went vegetarian when I was 21 in late 2005, I went vegan when I was 23 in early 2008 and now I'm going raw!

My short term goals are to lose weight, clear up my psoriasis and have more energy.

My long term goals are to help prevent disease.

I'm blogging here (thatoneguyonline.com).

I'm vlogging here (youtube.com/user/thatoneguyonline).

  • Hey Matt, good to hear you choosing to go raw!

I went completely raw about 3 weeks ago, then I went to vegan protein powders, and a couple days ago I quit the protein powders to go 100% raw again. I have felt alot better ever since quitting the cooked foods! And I believe you will too!

Matt raw foods are so much healthier and nutrient rich. Also Matt, try to stick to organic fruits and veggies cuz some fruits like apples and strawberries, and certain veggies, can contain loads of pesticides and other chemicals. I just started buying about 70% organic produce like a week ago from only buying 20% produce, and ever since eating more organics, I feel so much more balanced and healthier!.

    God bless!!!!

  • is there a big difference between being vegan and being a raw vegan? what do you mean by "going raw" ? what is the major difference in how ones feel and why? thanks

  • Vegan is no meat and dairy. Raw vegan adds no processed food of any kind, nothing is cooked. Everything is consumed in the raw form. Granted, food is blended, pureed, and sometimes dehydrated at low temps, but technically everything is eaten as a "living food".

What I have found for myself, and from feedback from other folks, is your energy level increases when you consume totally raw foods, and you experience a "wow, I feel good" feeling. Some folks lose weight, but not all. Some folks go through a 'detox' period of feeling crummy, but it usually lasts a short amount of time, and then you experience the energy and feeling good. I've had these comments from folks who were vegetarians for several years and folks transitioning from a regular SAD diet. But everyone is different.

Everyone has their own "food" path to follow. For my students, I recommend trying a variety of eating/diet choices, and see what works for them ... do what feels best and what resonates with you. don't let other people or "trends" pressure you into eating one way or another. After all, there is only one you.

  • thank you for your input - very insightful.

i am a new vegan, day 25 and i really like the focus it gives me. i also feel consistently energetic.

however, my sleep patterns have been inconsistent. i almost feel like i have become insomniac.

do you have any experience with this?

Hi matt! Congraulations on making the choice to go raw in 2010. Wishing you all the best :)

  • Thanks, guys!

  • You dont have to give up! I've had times when I've given into my vices(sweet granola and chocolate) that were somewhat healthy but not raw. Accept it as part of the transition--more and more you'll start to lose interest in cooked foods. And if you're cold(as I often am), drink some tea!

  • Well guys, I just gave in to pizza (vegan, but not raw).

I'm still going to be into raw, I'm just not going to eat 100% raw.

wow, Matt I feel as though I am stalking you. I saw you on youtube then meetup then facebook and now here. I have to go to those raw food support groups at Georgetown and see you in person and further the stalking.

I'd recommend not trying 100% I know I can't do it so I don't try I just eat high raw today I have eaten around 85% without trying. Now that you said pizza I want one like the Amy's or Trader Joe's vegan pizzas. SInce I have been stuck inside with the snow I am craving junk food..........
