I feel guilty

I was just wondering how many of you have the occasional beer with some of your friends. I am new to eating mostly raw foods, however i had about three beers with my friends just hanging out. I am not saying that i need to be a certain percentage raw or else i flip out, its just that sometimes i like to have a couple of beers with my friends and right now i feel a little guilty. My friends still think i am completely nuts for not eating meat, i haven’t told them that i only eat raw natural whole foods. For instance today they offered me some pizza and i refused. After awhile i told them i was a vegetarian, and they began to ask so many questions like why would i do this, how do i live without meat, things like that. I was just wondering how many of you guys might have a beer or two with or without your friends. I do enjoy going out and drinking with my friends once in awhile, even though i know how detrimental drinking is to our health. Just wondering if any one else is in the same boat as me. Sorry it was so long

  • The more you detoxify through a clean, raw and living foods lifestyle, you’ll reach a point where anything toxic and unnatural will make you feel severely, physically ill and toxic for days after ingesting it. Beer, cooked and processsed foods, chocolate, wine, caffeine and coffee…all these things will make you literally feel like you are physically dying! And it IS painful! That’s the effect of toxic foods/beverages on a clean, detoxed body. Keep it raw, keep it clean, keep it simple. A beer here and there won’t kill you, and if you keep the rest clean, you will eventually lose the desire and tolerance for it, trust me. Guilt has no place here. Whenever you step a little off track, just get right back on and keep moving forward. Don’t look back!

Your friends may be hostile to what you’re doing at first. But if you just tell them, get it out the way, put up with jokes etc for a few days, I am sure it will blow over. Lots of people who go raw end up with their mates going raw too, once they see how you change and how do able it is. My best friend went raw, my parents are now a little more than raw curious. It just takes them seeing you doing it and thriving and wanting some of it. I did have wine at first when with friends, but after a party where I had 2 glasses and spent hours throwing up, I knew my body just didn’t want it anywhere near me!! Just go as fast as the slowest part of yourself and you’ll be fine. Good Luck!

  • Thanks for the replys. I know i “folded” under the pressure i guess, and like you said lauraj i am right back on track trying to do the best i can to better my body. I posted that right when i got back home and was full of guilt, but you know what this is all part of the process in bettering myself. Thanks

  • I drink beer still, and whats great is it takes less beer to get drunk. :)

There has also been a discussion about drinking wine and even how raw/vegan wine is.

word weirdphonecian. i don’t drink beer, but i drink wine and sake.

  • I drink those as well :) Wine is truly my drink of choice, but when the occasion calls, beer me!

I still like beer although I haven’t had any in a while.

If you want to keep raw, have ORGANIC wine (has to be organic). ORGANIC wine is raw.

I still drink the occassional alcoholic beverage, but as lauraj said, they sound less and less appealing the longer I am raw.

  • Hey – I wouldn’t feel guilty unless it was Coors or Bud! Organic red wine sounds good I need to try some. Seriously, if we are hit by an asteroid or some other world disaster I’d like to have some wood pecker cider or something. I barely ever get around to buying alcohol but real beer is actually really good for you. Monks drank it! And red wine has anti occidants(sp?). If I could get more people to eat fresh vegetables by luring them in with a little bubbly I would! Hey- How about some Kale Ale?!

dont feel guilty! :) Asmall amount of alcohol can be very beneficial. Wine especially is a great source of antioxidants. Just make sure you get some good old world made wine with out the sulfite crap in it. Sulfites sacrifice flavor plus make you drunk twice as fast. In other words get organic wines like everyone has been mentioning on here. also with beer, dont overdo it, and steer clear of those sulfites. If you are woondering why that additive is there, it is a preservative. Sip and savor your alcohol and you will wont find your self going for more. Enjoy!

  • In my quest to transition to raw, I too was “worried” about what would happen if I was socializing with friends who (let’s face it) are my big eating/drinking buds. I am a pretty decent cook and people come to my house for 5-6 course meals. All of course while we are drinking (martinis/wine/liquers/homemade beers) SO—of course it will be weird at first, but since my gang is older (45 and over) they’ll probably just accept it as they accept all the other changes us old folks (ha) go through. I figure once they start to see the changes I am going through (and how magnificent I look and feel) and start eating all the great raw food I serve, they’ll be cool with it. They’re used to me being the first to try stuff anyway. (wink) Seriously, I think I’ll look into organic wine, just in case…..

  • I was wondering, where can i find organic wine. Because i would love to find it in a healthfood store or any local grocer as opposed to having to order it online. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and we do have a fair share of healthfood stores. Thanks, and i still will drink the occasional beer or five with my friends.

Billy, one of the Whole Foods in ABQ should carry organic wine—if you don’t see it, just ask. Some wine producers are organic but don’t necessarily advertise that fact loudly. Organic wines are still kind of a niche market, so many producers opt to be placed with the mainstream wines in order to have access to a larger market. Hopefully that is changing, but in the meantime, the wine buyer should be able to steer you in the right direction.
