Hey Everybody ( new and very excited)

Peace everybody,

I am new to the raw journey and have enjoyed reading the posts on this site very much. I have been vegetarian for approximately 5 years and recently have become vegan, its been about 3 months. I was first introduced to the Raw lifestyle by reading RAW by juliano, i found the cookbook to be so amazing and full of color and life. I then began working at Karyns RAW and Karyns Cooked ,located in Chicago , IL. While working there I learned so much about the Raw lifestyle and decided that it was do -able for me. I am ending a 30 day fast, I started with 15 days of master cleanse, and I have 8 days left, woo hoo! I plan on transitioning into a raw foods diet out of my fast, I was looking for recipes on line and i came across this site.
I am very interested in books that folks can recommend as I am fairly new to food combining techniques, etc. I am also particularly interested in incorporating a raw foods lifestyle into social movement work and organizing in youth communities. I have read Afrikan Holistic Health and Queen Afua’s Heal Thyself, which have been very helpful in my journey.

I look forward to learning more about raw and growing in my journey into raw foods!
peace

  • Hello Reelraw ,
I too am new to the raw lifestyle-I recently went vegetarian 8 months ago-and now I have been 100% raw for 6 days. I was so inspired by others on these msg boards-I knew it was the right road to take for better health. Already I feel rejuvenated and peaceful.

I have not read too many books yet, only 12 Steps to RAW Foods by Victoria Boutenko with the foreward by Gabriel Cousens. I think it’s a good resource for beginners-there are not alot of recipes though.

Good Luck to you on your journey and I’ll see ya around the boards.
PS-I have alot of respect for you (A 30 Day Fast – WOW!!)
    Have a great day:)

Hi Reelraw, Welcome! I was going to recommend boutenko’s book – but rawcakes beat me to it! cool! it sounds like you’re on the right path. Enjoy!

  • Welcome, Reelraw! That’s so awesome that you got to work at Karyn’s! Next time I’m in Chicago, I’m checking it out.

I love Ani Phyo’s “Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen” for recipe ideas, and David Wolfe’s “Eating for Beauty.” Also Michael Pollan’s books are awesome for learning about the food industry, organic foods, and our food supply in general. Wishing you success on your Raw journey!
