just eat fruit for breakfast, maybe nuts or dried fruit as a snack, and a big salad for dinner. it's a very simple way to eat and live.
Yep, simplicity is key for making it in the raw...whether it is one day or 100. It'd probably help to plan out what you're having that day so it's easier to stick to it. But, like Joanna said fruit for breakfast would be great, if you have blood sugar probs, bananas are usually a good choice and you can add in a couple slices to half an avocado...it helps slow the absorption of sugar down a tad and generally combines well with most fruits (except melons...eat those alone or leave 'em alone ;) Nuts, veggie sticks, or a piece of fruit makes for a good in-between mealtime snack...or a green smoothie....and dinner a big salad...or raw soup would be an easy way to go. You don't have to get super complicated with all the gadgets and appliances and things, especially if you're only going a day raw at a time. Your magic bullet will make green smoothies just fine, and there are some really great and tasty recipes on here if you need some inspiration or ideas for some to try.
Thank you, I think those are great suggestions to just try and keep it very simple and take it one day at a time. For people who eat like this as a lfestyle, this may seem very simple but for a person like me who is used to eating meat everyday, this is a huge step.
aytiah congratulations on giving the raw lifestyle a try :)
Everyone else has already made some excellent suggestions, but I just wanted to wish you well!
Thank you Mikfizzle, I read your blog and I am looking forward to trying Annies Naturals Goddess Dressing :)
If you have a magic bullet thats great. Use it to blend bananas, greens (spinach, lettuce, etc), an orange (just peal and dice), and some berries. If you have any kind of nuts, add a few too. I am not sure about the size of the magic bullet, but I drink about 21/2 cups of a similar concotion for breakfast every morning and that keeps me rolling until lunch time.
Since you are just starting on this diet you may feel more hungry than normal. This is partially because you will be thinking about food the whole day (what can I eat next?), and also because raw food is much easier to digest. Keep some seeds or nuts at hand, as well as apples, pears, or whatever fruit you like as a snack. You can dip the fruit pieces in coconut butter, for example, to make a more satisfying snack. Personaly I love figs, they are very good for you, have healthy carbs, not to mention a miriad of vitamines and minerals, and also keep you full.
For lunch mix whatever greens you have or like and combine them in a huge salad, with cucumbers, tomatoes, cilantro, onions, olives, sprouts, etc. You can't go wrong.
Maybe for dinner you can go a little more sophisticated. Raw "sushi" is something very fast and simple to make and very satisfying. There are several recipes on this site, but they are way too time consuming for me. I just usually mix an avocado, tomatoes, carrot strips, cilantro, cucumbers, spring onions and use olive oil and apple cider vinegar as dressing. I rolled them up with some spinach at the base, collar greens, or (again) any greens that you have on hand, it taste really good!
I hope your plans work out well. If not, that's OK, you can take a different approach later on by adding one raw meal at a time, and then adding more meals a day as you discover the things you like and enjoy. Let us know how it goes. :o]
