Hello and Thanks!

Hi there, I just wanted to say “hello” as I’ve been looking around this forum for a few weeks and getting a lot of inspiration here!

I am in my early 50’s, overweight and was diagnosed with high blood pressure a few months ago, spotted whilst I was preparing for surgery. I had a breast lumpectomy which thankfully turned out to be benign. The surgery left me rather lop-sided and coupled with my obesity, my self-confidence and self-esteem was at an all time low.

I decided that I wanted things to change and started to research new ways of healthy eating. All previous attempts at dieting, whether “successful” or not resulted in the weight piling on again (same old story!). I want something that will result in long-term results and that will be enjoyable and a way of life rather than a diet. I decided that weight loss wasn’t the only objective, I want vibrant health & energy too! That’s when I came across the idea of eating raw foods.

Two months ago I went about 70% raw and have lost 10lbs so far, taking me from a being ‘seriously obese’ to just ‘obese’. I’ve got a long way to go, but I can honestly say I’ve got more energy and my skin looks so much better. My blood pressure is still high though, and there are days when I feel as though I’m not making progress as quickly as I’d like.

The recipes posted here on the website are a inspiration and I want to sincerely thank those who have posted them. As we speak, I’m trying out new recipes for bars in the dehydrator. These things will be (possibly quite literally) life-savers and help to keep me on the straight and narrow.

So thanks VERY much for all the help, tips and truly awsome recipes.

congratulations for taking charge of your life! keep going… it just gets better. =)

  • Wow, Romany, love your story! You are on an awesome journey. Enjoy your yummy bars. : )Blessings.

BTW: I read your profile and you are currently living out the future dream that my husband and I share…. That is so cool!

  • Thanks very much guys. I made the banana millet and the cherry nut bars, although I had no cherries and used blueberries instead. They are amazingly good, and wonderful to be able to have a small treat at the end of the day which won’t harm my healthy eating plan. Hubby gets out the cookies after supper and sits there munching them, and it’s hard not to have anything myself, so these will be a great standby.

I’m worried about his unhealthy eating. He’s not overweight due to being extremely active, but eats a lot of unrefined stuff and sugar. I’m hoping that some of these fabulous recipes will help me to wean him onto some healthier stuff. He’s taking (and enjoying) a glass from my green smoothie in the mornings and (following a lecture from me the other day) is eating more fruit. He’s also raving about the onion bread I made the other day, so I think, with your help, we should both feel the benefit of the wonderful recipes here. Again, a big thanks because I don’t think there’s a resource anywhere as good as this!

Mamamilk – yes we’re aiming on living the self-sufficiency dream and have managed to grow quite a bit of our own food, not bad as we are immigrants to Canada and this is only our second growing season here. Fuel and energy are more of a challenge, but we’re working on it! I hope you will go for it sometime in the future.
