Having some stomach troubles..

Are there certain foods that can upset your stomach or am I experiencing some light detox symptoms? Today my stomach is upset and I’m running to the bathroom a lot. I’m not a happy camper!! I’ve been raw for 8 days now and am about 80% raw. I still use some commercial vegan salad dressings and store bought hummus. It seems to early to be having detox symptoms but who knows.

Today I ate the following so far:

1 medium nectarine for breakfast

A green smoothie for brunch which consisted of 2 handfuls of spinach, 1 apple, and 1 peach and some water. It was about 15 oz. or so. I drank it all.

A handful of pine nuts for a snack.

For lunch I had a small spinach salad with mushrooms, green scallions, and strawberries with some vegan dressing. For dessert I had a bowl of cherries.

For a snack later I had some celery and hummus.

Right now my stomach feels blah. I don’t know if it was something I ate today that just upset my tummy or if it is something else. Any ideas?

  • From my experience, once your body starts to become clearer the cooked garbanzo beans in the hummus may start to effect you negatively. The good news for me was that I like the no bean raw hummus even better than the cooked garbanzo bean type.

Spinach is a natural laxative, and it looks like you have had quite a bit today. So, it could be light detox, a reaction to the cooked garbanzo’s, or the it could just be the spinach doing it’s “magic” ;)

  • Hey Nutgirl,

I had significant intestinal detox symptoms right away. So imo it could be a touch of that, but its good in a way it means that some stuff is leaving yr body. :) And spirited mama is right spinach is slightly laxative. I am impressed w/all the variety of stuff you ate it shows committment and intention. There is an amazing recipe for zucchini hummus on this website in the recipe section and it is so good…I use less garlic and a few olives in it its the best, creamy, tangy mmm try it if you can. You won’t miss regular hummus. Take care and blessings, dea.

Hey I’ve been having stomach problems too! But its only when I eat raw food… i think cuz i’m mostly Fruitarian so I basically only eat fruits and nuts. I made a raw pizza the other day: it was a mix of zuchinni, walnut, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cashews, almonds, garlic, tomatoes, lemon, dates, olives/oil, pineapple, avocado, coconut, herbs…. Is it because its a mix of so many different things its hard on the digestive system? It took me like 2 days to feel normal again.

I also notice that Zola Acai drink affects me negatively, can anyone else relate or know why that is? I don’t want to stop cuz I love acai…

and another question!; the hummus sounds good (even tho i might get sick) what do you eat it with? just a spoon?

  • Hi Kundalinita, The hummus can be eaten as a dip with crudites, I cut veggies into strips or wedge shape and scoop up the hummus, serve the hummus in a bowl or small bowl with the veggies along side. I have not had much luck with making crackers or bread raw mainly b/c I do not have a dehydrator but tos of us whom have access to flax seed crackers can serve the hummus with that too. Its great to serve to people who aren’t raw b/c they are like hmmm this is sooo good what’s in it … :) Also re being a fruitarian I tried that but I was so lightheaded and spacey, I just could not do it. Glad to hear it works for you though.

kundalalita, I think Zola Acai would affect you negatively because it’s probably pastuerized… Any kind of bottled drink would be, I think. It’s not raw, in that case.
