  • I’m in! I really like your blog, by the way, and plan to watch it in the future. Thanks!

  • rachel_akikorachel_akiko Raw Newbie

I think I’ll do it too. I’ve fasted for three days on just water before. :D

Ssarah (many thanks for comment – always encouraging) and Rachel – brilliant! I’ve posted this on other forums as well so there will be virtual companions.

i have done water fasts before with little success because i was still eating cooked food. i didn’t realize that the cooked food hunger pangs were from acidity in the stomach.

i am still recovering from an illness right now so i think i will wait longer. but after reading your blog i am no longer afraid of doing one! thanks!

  • I already replied on Give it to me Raw, but just wanted to say I’m really excited :-P

Hi Bitt, Kait (ah – Kaitlin!)

Got up this morning to lots of replies on the different forums I posted the event on – which is exciting!

Bitt, the ‘gnawing’ theory comes from William D Hay. It’s quite an old source, but I use it because my personal experience has validated the theory.

I’m so glad my blog has persuaded you to fast, at least for a short period, but, yes, as a lay person, I’d have to protect myself with the ‘consult a health professional first’ (blah blah :-)) if you are ill.

  • Great blog, and great idea! I want in too. It will definately be a challenge for me, but I’m up for it. Thanks for coordinating the fast. I’m going to start preparing…:)

  • Hi Debbie (and others) I’ve been playing with the idea of water fasting in my head for a while. I guess the reason I’ve not done it yet is because I always have so much to do and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to do anything while fasting. On Saturday, for example, I have to work a dinner shift at 6:30pm (waitressing). If I have only had water all day, will I have the stamina and emotional energy to do this? What do you think?

    Hi myrawlife

    That’s great news!

I’ll be posting ‘during’, ie on Saturday as well, for solidarity!

Does anyone know what effect water fasting has on hormones? I’m really interested in doing a water fast, but can’t this Saturday cuz I have friends over for dinner. Maybe next week.

    To Vilde Chaya and Carmentina

Vilde Chaya – whether or not fasting will actually result in your lacking energy for your evening shift, the thought that it might will be an obstacle for you. It will either weaken your resolve to undertake the fast, or it could result in your not completing it. So, here’s the solution – provided you’re not working this evening, pull it forward and fast, say 5 pm Friday to 5 pm Saturday.

Carmentina – no, I don’t know what effect water fasting has on hormones, not being a fasting practitioner (although actually I don’t remember seeing any references to fasting and hormones in anything I’ve read). But 24 hours - I’d guess neglible, and couldn’t imagine that it could be a reason not to undertake a 24 hour fast. Can’t this Saturday because friends over for dinner? See answer to Vilde Chaya. So, how many reasons not to left? :-)

Carmentina, I am reading The Miracle of Fasting by Paul Bragg right now and he mentions just a little little bit about hormones and he says, ” It is a great physiological rest I give my body and digestive organs. This includes my liver, gallbladder, and all other faithful organs, including the ones producing hormones, that are running my body…” Although this doesn’t give much detailed information, it seems like fasting would be good for all the hormone producing organs.

I have had problems with hormonal imbalances in the past and plan to fast, I will let you know how it goes. Good luck, enjoy!

  • i’m in , debbie

how exciting….any idea how many of thus will be doing this…have you done a rough global headcount ????

  • I’m in starting right now 12:30… I want to do 36 hours… HOPE I make it

  • yikes you guys! More power to ya I think I would end go crazy not eating anything for more then 24 hrs.

  • Hmmmm I think I may add lemon to my water, otherwise I just begin to get bored with water altogether.

  • Hi, I have done in the past some “water only” fasting, for a coupple of months I used to fast 24hr on new moon and full moon (equals to 2-24hr fasts a month). I have also done “plenty” of semi-fasting only apples for up to 1 week. I still have few hours to think about tomorrow’s fast…. let’s see what’s in my agenda for tomorrow… :-)

  • debbietookdebbietook Raw Master

Aha, ardesmond – I’m going to answer you on this forum as well :-) But here I’ve caught you – you’ve used the word ‘bored’! This is one of the points of fasting – we’re used to constant oral titillation through our food (and yes that even applies to the raw food diet, at least for many of us). This is one day – just 24 hours – when we try to do without all that. The water isn’t intended to be an interesting part of the diet – it’s there just to keep you hydrated and nothing more. Hi El-bo

No, I haven’t…but if I had to guess think about a hundred have actually said ‘I’m in’ via forums (giveittomeraw.com has generated the most replies).

But,as in any forum, around 75% of members ‘lurk’ and don’t actually post, the number actually taking part could be far higher.

    Hi Melaverde

Go on, please join us – it’s just 24 hours. I know you want to really.

    Hi emmie21

If you think you’ll go crazy not eating for more than 24 hours…you’ll be OK then! As, it’s only a 24-hour fast. Is that a ‘yes’ then?
