I was having gallbladder attacks about 7-8 years ago and didn't realize what they were. For several health concerns, I went to this kinesiologist who told me not to tell him any symptoms I was having because he did not want to be influenced by what I said. After he finished my exam, he told me he thought I was having stabbing pains in my gut, in addition to other things that were later proven true. He explained it was a gallbladder problem and said they would stop if I took a supplement called A-F Betafood and is made by Standard Process. Within 2 days the pains stopped. They would return about once a year afterward and usually when I ate a high fat animal food. The pain always stopped when I took the Betafood, which is suppose to alleviate gallbladder inflammation.

I had a CT scan done after a car wreck about 3 years ago. It confirmed I had gallstones. I did a version of the gallbladder cleanse that Zinfandel posted in this thread. I believe in science and would like proof before I accept any remedy as legitimate. The problem is that , just like conventional medicine, the natural health industry will also make misrepresentations to sell products. Even more prevalent, is people making connections between cures and illnesses where there is no proven or even logical connection. In the case of the gallbladder cleanse, no product is being sold so you can eliminate the first problem but not the second.

Those who criticize the gallbladder cleanse say that the green pebbles that you expel are actually the oil you drink which is solidified with stomach matter during digestion. I suspect this could be true and wondered why a naturopath has never published a scientific examination of an expelled "gallbladder" stone. Just because they look like gallstones doesn't mean they are gallstones. I have decided that I believe in the cleanse due to my personal experience, but that of course is not the same thing as proof but I am happy to tell you what happened.

I did my first gallbladder cleanse and expelled many of the little green pebbles and a few large once. I wondered if I would feel any different and did not. I could not afford a follow up CT scan just to see if I now had fewer stones in my gallbladder nor did I want to subject myself to the risks associated with another procedure.

I was doing some research a few days after my initial gallbladder cleanse on the liver and came across some information that alarmed me regarding a mention of yellow or pale stools. I realized when reading the article that my bowel movements had changed color gradually and had been a pale yellow color for at least 2 years. There were never brown or even brownish. I had thought about it once or twice but wasn't alarmed but assumed it had something to do with eating a macrobiotic diet. Again, it happened so gradually and become normal I didn't really think about it.

I read that yellow or pale stool is a sign of gallbladder inflammation that causes a blocked bile duct and bilirubin, which makes your stool brown, is not able to empty your body as required. This condition can be serious and could lead to liver failure. Now I was alarmed. When I did the first cleanse I had no pain but read about the possibility of a gallbladder cleanse causing a blocked bile duct and how to handle it, if possible, without medical intervention. At this point it was clear to me I probably had a blocked file duct for some time and decided, based on what I read, to try another cleanse to see if I could dislodge the offending stones. I waited another week as I read you should not do the cleanse without waiting at least 2 weeks in between and then did another cleanse. (I highly recommend that you query the appropriate terms and read as much as you can about doing the cleanse before trying it because each article will tell you different things about the process and you need to be as well informed as possible. NEVER rely on a single source for information and always look for information that contradicts what you are contemplating so you get both sides of the story. Then you can make up your mind which course you want to take.)

I did a second cleanse and this time significantly more green blobs/stones/whatever came out. Within 3 days or so, my stool returned to brown and has remained that way since. I know I had not had brown stool for at least 2 years and, while it is fair to argue this experience is still anecdotal, something I did caused my stool to change color and I did do the one thing that was suppose to unclog the duct - the gallbladder cleanse. Again, this isn't scientific proof but I think the connection is logical.

I still do a gallbladder cleanse twice a year. I have never needed to take the A-F Betafood since the first cleanse. I did not rely on a single formula to do my cleanse but instead combined the information I found. Prior to the cleanse, I drank at least 1 quart of apple cider daily prior to the cleanse (for the malic acid). I added 60 drops of Standard Process's Phosfood Liquid drops per day to the juice. (my teeth became very senitive to cold liquids as a result but I did not let this detour me.) According to the same kinesiologist, the Phosfood Liquid helps soften the stones and makes it easier for them to pass through the ducts during the cleanse. BTW, no one ever recommended the cleanse to me and I happened upon it doing research. I had already decided to do the cleanse and went to ask the kinesiologist if he knew any reason I should not. He says he recommends them all the time and advises the use of Phosfood Liquid. I also use fresh pink grapefruit juice to mix with the oil and did it in a high speed blender. Using a high speed blender makes a big difference in how well the two mix and how it tastes going down.

Certainly don't try the cleanse based on my report but instead investigate it thoroughly and make a decision that you feel is right for you.

    Best of Luck.
