fruit allergy?

omshantiomshanti Raw Newbie

ok so 38 years is a long time to finally “hear ” my body, but two days ago my face broke out. it was sensitive and kinda “prickly”( this has occured for years off and on) so I didnt think to much about it since i live outdoors in the sun and dirt all day and just mousturized like usual and thought ill make an effort to keep my hair off of it for a few days. Well, I was talking to a friend of mine and she was saying how all raw wouldnt work for her because she breakes out in an itchy rash from most fruits! she said it started out with strawberries but that recently she had the same reaction with cherries! the breakout is as she described it like haveing a beard and mustache that is on fire. My rash was along my jaw line and hair line and i remember my lips burning and being dried out too. So do i have a fruit allergy and if so, how do i narrow down which one it is? Ive tried only two new fruits lately that is chermoya, and prickly pear but have consumed plumcots, rasberries, bananas, bosenberries , coconut, apples, dates tomatoes…it goes on and on( guess im taking this keep a varied diet thing to heart! grin) I dont usaully eat this much fruit at all but since going raw i have probobly tripled my intake of it…..any words of wisdom? will this allergy go away on a stricltly raw diet or will it worsen, thoughts?

  • Hi- It could be due to tomatoes- I seem to be more sensitive to them lately. Do you eat any nuts in particular or sprouts?

When I first started juicing last summer, I started breaking out around the chin and jaw. I tried different creams and cleansers. They were helpful but they didn’t stop the breakouts.

A couple of months ago, I quit taking the cod liver oil capsules and flax seed pills I’d been taking. I also quit drinking almond milk and nuts (replacing them with fruit).

My skin is clearing now thank goodness. My novice guess is that you could have started taking supplements and something in the supplements could be bothering you. I quit taking the almond milk because they say that people who eat nuts regularly have a higher level of mold in their blood. A higher mold level could lead to other serious health problems.

It took over a year to figure out what was causing mine.

yes, pea shoots, sunflower seeds, soaked dehydrated, pine nuts soaked dehydrated, pecans, almonds(soaked dehydrated)not huge quantities mind you, amonds mostly though i guess and i drink almond milk(but not everyday) but i have eaten tabouleh and green salads the past few says with tomatoes.yesterday i had a hankering for tomatoes and ate three but i swear it could be the plumcots or the new fruits i tried as, i ate a whole chermoya and prickly pear on the same day. at the farmers market on saturday i remember my lips burning after a plumcot….i cant remember the exact day my face broke out as im soooo used to it…i think it was sunday but seemed worse monday and seemed better yesterday of course this morning im all freaked out about it sooo im noticing it more! grin

itourist: so if i give up nuts and fruits then i guess its greens only for me? can i live on that? big grin!!!!

I pop around reading what people have written. I see that some people don’t eat fruit because of yeast????

I definitely eat a lot of fruit, more fruit than vegetables.

I suffered from the breakouts for about a year. I am just tickled now that I am not breaking out.

If you are drinking bottled/pasteurized/dead fruit juices, that could make you break out. I noticed that I had flares when I was mixing it in with my other stuff.

  • Have you considered getting a blood test for food allergies? It’s quite easy to test against several hundred foods for an immune system reaction.

Another thought that comes to mind is the phototoxic reaction that can occur from figs.

Thanks everyone! i am considering allergy testing. my rash is gone, ill be experimenting by adding in the new fruits. one a week to see if i break out again. I find this stuff facinating!

That's exactly how I am. I despise having to use over-the-counter medications for it. I'm not sure if taking them daily is healthy; I'd rather not because they make me tired. My doctor from www.intolerancelab.co.uk stated they're helpful since they help with psychotic difficulties; I'm not sure how true that is, but I'll take it. Allergies are awful because you know you can take medicines if you have an attack, but they only work for a few hours. I want to know what the issue is. To be honest, I eat poorly. It's almost as if my body is incapable of handling nutritious food, but I don't want to believe that.

Getting allergy testing is definitely the easier way to go. It took me years to completely rule out my allergies the non-medical route.

I agree that sometimes supplements can be the cause. Even just changing brands sometimes can make a big difference if they are.

It's always something you don't think of. For me, it was the chamomile tea I used to have most evenings.
