Feeling horrible, detoxing?

These past couple of days my sinuses and been extremely sensative and clogged. This is the first time I have felt this way since going raw (over three months!).

When this would happen when I was vegan (my sinuses were always clogged then, but some days worse than others) I would find what I added to my diet to start this.

So this week I: dropped maple syrup completly (could be detoxing?) added Kale to my diet, added dates to my diet. 12 dates a day almost. I am thinking that is what it is. The dates.

Any suggestions or help to get through this?

Greens always sort me out if I feel dodgy. Green smoothies, with tons of spinach, wheatgrass juice, kale, kale, kale…green yourself out of it :) Sounds like you’re doing that already.

Maybe if those dates are dried they have been dried at high temps and are cooked ? It can be hard to tell, I look the company who sells them on the web and send them an email and ask them. Can you get fresh dates, or sundried ones?

You could use sundried raisins and sultanas as an alternative sweetner. And see what happens to your body when you switch.

  • I buy the at Wild Oats and they are called Mejdol Dates? They are organic but I dont know if they are raw. They are really really soft and delicious. I havent eaten any dates today yet. Still feel clogged, but a little better. I bought some larabars, which never made me sick, although they have dates in them.

I had spinach this morning and put 3 Kale leaves in my smoothies. This sickness reminds me of when I ate cooked food :(

I’m having some serious chelating/detox reactions today too, jkd. I’m detoxing mercury and heavy metals (intentionally). I’m having some weird symptoms that I haven’t had in a while, metal taste in my mouth, excess saliva, numb lips and a sharp pain from time to time in my cheek. I’m retracing, a positive sign that mercury is leaving the way it got to where it was. I look at those signs as a good thing now and you should too. The body is rejecting the toxins!

  • I read somewhere (can’t remember where?) that when chelating (FYI:cilantro & parsley are chelating herbs) you want to use a binder. Apple pectin & Spirulina are good for binding to heavy metals. I am not sure if they bind to other junk too?? But if they can help with heavy metals..I am sure they would help with the “smaller” stuff too. I am going by memory on all this…I am sure you could google it and find out more. Good Luck!! :-)

I posted on a previous message about the cilantro being a mobilizer. So many people think it’s good for mercury, but moving mercury without binding it is dangerous. I use Modifilan, brown seaweed. It contains alginates that bind with metals, but that doesn’t keep the tissues from having a healing response. These toxins leave in a fury! I’ve been working on this off and on for several years. I had my dental amalgams removed first. It’s necessary to remove the source of mercury before you chelate. Of course, that’s only one source, but it’s the most obvious one. And yes, other toxins are being removed too since mercury often binds with other things, one of them being candida. Thanks, we have matching cats! Allison

  • I guess its just detoxing. The dates wouldnt have anything to do with this?

I also broke out in blisters on my back where a sunburn is, which never happened before, on meat, vegan, or cooked food diet.

  • Hi Jkd_soccer,

I have been raw for 90 some days now…detox happens for a while. I had pretty wild symptoms…intestinal, skin breakouts, weird aches… I thought the worst was over but I was just home in the US visiting friends and family and attending a workshop and not sure what happened (I stayed raw…but was on the road for a while…stress factor) I got back last Saturday June 16 and by tuesday I had one of my allergy flare ups but this time in my eyes only! I usually sneeze a lot spring-summer-fall…but this time its beyond the usual eye itchiness…my eyes somehow although I cannot locate where exactly are infected….they itch, they burn, I am crying (physically all the time) and more stuff is seeping out…don’t mean to gross you out, but since there are no sties, no localized swelling and its out of the blue…I am guessing its detox…my body is getting rid of more toxins. I am drinking green juice (thanks for showing me how to do it Zoe!) and upping my greens intake in my smoothies…it seems to be helping so hang in there, when you get bad detox symptoms just think..its more gak leaving you…yay! Take care, peace and blessings, deasmiles

I have only been raw 2 months but I have huge sinus problems when I accidentally (or purposefully) eat anything cooked. It has happened when I ate salad at a (nonraw) potluck. The oil in the dressing on the salad must have been cooked. It’s happened when I used Braggs Liquid Aminos, and when I tried cooking some Indian food (kicharri). It sounds like you’re on the right track in eliminating potentially cooked foods. I’ve also heard of others (Shirley at Shirley’s Wellness Cafe site) say that if she overate on certain things, her sinuses would flare up. My sinuses are definitely my weak point with all of this. Best of health to you!

  • I would also drink lots of fresh diluted carrot juice to help with the detox dips, and more juice overall to help flush the toxins. Beet is a good detoxifier, as well. For sinuses, try a dab of pepperment essential oil on your temples or in a cotton ball and inhale..this and other similar essential oils will help open your sinuses and allow you to beathe easier. Wild Oats has these essential oils. Why are you adding dates/ Add more juice and fluids, and try not to inhibit the detoxification process because this dip will come to pass.
