colonics - mixed information

eechoeecho Raw Newbie

I here two opposites about colonics:

1) They clean out compacted waste that is potentially years old. This allows the digestive system to work much better. They can aid in healing and general cleansing, and you feel amazing afterward with more energy and vitality.

2) They are a hoax. Nothing sticks to the inside of the colon, its just a matter of time before it is all passed through. The fecal matter coming out is simply the stuff that was in the process of being passed already (intestines are 36 ft long).

So, whats the deal here? I was psyched to get some colonics done becuase of all the good things I've heard, but then stumbled upon a lot of information that says they really don't do anything. And since I don't want to waste my money.... what's the truth? Has anyone had it done, or know someone who has?

I personally think there is a lot of stuffs that sits on your intestins including parasites and don't come out when we usually use the bathroom.

I have heard they are a lit expensive, but there is other ways of cleaning your intestinal tract in your home and very cheap.

Have you heard about the salt flush??i have done this and i loove it!!!! and i think it works better than colonics, because i know colonic they stick a hose up your butt and i think that only the buttom waiste comes out. With a salt flush you flush your hole digestive track and the hole 36 ft intestines all the way, from top to buttom.

Get some more info and read about it. I think is more effective, privet and cheap!!!! you will fell great and will save!!!

    God Bless!!!

  • I just had my first colonic last week and I felt so incredible that I went back for another two days ago. I have NEVER experienced more mental clarity and joy in my life.

I know people who have gotten them for years and swear by them. I read Matt Monach's book, "Raw Success" and he highly recommends doing colonics so I thought I would give it a try. I am so glad I did.

I think you should at least have one to see for yourself.

  • colonics= :D

salt flush= i did one as per instructions and it didn't work. my face swelled up and all around my eyes it looked like i had been beaten up.

  • nothing is as safe or detoxifying as colon cleansing. way back in the day, EVERY hospital room had a machine for it. thanks to the pharmaceutical companies, that's not the case anymore. i've had about 5 colonics this year and feel so much better for it. i couldn't believe the stuff coming out of me. i really recommend you give it a shot. becoming younger by norman walker or raw spirit by matt monarch can give you the breakdown of the science behind it all if you'd like to be educated on the subject before you partake.

  • colonics ROCK. i would get one every month if i could afford it. a series of 3 colonics helped dislodge all kinds of stuff i couldn't believe was in there :) i felt so light and clean afterward, and craved fruits and veggies like never before. if/ when you feel you're ready, i guarantee you won't regret it. good luck!

So, for those of you who have had colonics, did you see stuff that didn't look like normal poop?

  • I've had colonics and the one thing that was out of me that was different was old yeast. I was in hospital 2 years ago for 6 weeks and had lots of antibiotics. My colonic therapist/nutritionist said it was probably from this. I love them and go every 2 months. Some things are just worth it.

"2) They are a hoax. Nothing sticks to the inside of the colon, its just a matter of time before it is all passed through. The fecal matter coming out is simply the stuff that was in the process of being passed already (intestines are 36 ft long)."

Number 2 is the winner! - pun intended :P

Seriously though, the amount of colonic hype I see within the raw food movement is absolutely astounding. This is an unnecessary and potentially dangerous procedure. If it is done improperly, you could end up with complete loss of bowel control. All for the "pleasure" of watching your poop pass through a tube.

Stick to lots of juicy, sweet fruits and limit your fat intake and you will have the best digestion ever.

Oh, here is a portion of a really good post on colonics by a fellow raw foodist:

"The rationale of colon hydrotherapy is that it removes years

Colonics are amazing. You can get all kinds of stuff out of you. And yes, if you have parasites you can watch them float on by in the little window of the machine. My hydrotherapist told me that she has also seen things like barbie shoes float by that people had eaten as children.

I personally had severe IBS and wouldn't go to the bathroom for 5 days- you better believe your body stores waste. Ive had about 9 colonics in the last two years and i can tell that as time goes on my colonics arent as huge of a release as they used to be. My digestion is much improved as to what it used to be.

But I don't think everyone needs colonics- if you have a nice clean diet and no problems with digestion than your bowel can handle things. But if you've done massive antibiotics, have impaired digestion or had a horrible diet then they could help you. I also think they should be done sparingly and best if in conjunction with a cleanse.

Also i think it vital to make sure you're going to a reputable, and extremely sterile clinic.

  • Swayze, thank you so much for clearing this up. I have been so worried about what's been stuck inside me and i could never afford any colon cleansers - plus I didn't trust them... I am so glad to know what you said about never witnessing any layers of waste clinging on the intestine walls.

Personally, for whatever it's worth, I did them a quite some time, even had a colima board at home. But I found that it stripped what little flora I had so badly that the gas pains were unbearable, and would take days of probiodics to make them go away. And I know that Chinese medicine doesn't really care for them as it unbalances the body. I think myabe in extreme cases when one has one of those "guts", and is in the middle of disease, maybe...but many people use them as a way of not dealing with what they put in their bodies, like the first time my husband had one "Hey, so I can eat whatever I want and then just go and get a colonic"....but if you feel so led to do them, it's a personal choice like anything else.

A naturopath doctor I saw some years ago told me that anything with suction has more potential for damaging than it does for helping, considering that at home enemas can work just as well. I went out and bought an enema bag and since then have felt all of the positive effect (energy, lightness, healthier food cravings, mental clarity) that are claimed with colonics without the risk. Most often, if I feel like my digestion has slowed, I use a lemon juice cleansing enema to get on the right track. And, its ubercheap.

  • joannabananajoannabanana Raw Newbie

miranimal, do you just add lemon juice to your water?? what's the recipe? i've added salt before but didn't notice a difference between that and just plain water.

  • miranimalmiranimal Raw Newbie

joannabanana- I use the juice of three lemons to 2 quarts good clean water.

  • I've had professional colonics done and have a colema board at home. I've done several colon cleanses and I have never seen anything 'strange' come out. No worms, no bits of tire, etc. Just poo.

That said, if you have a particularly sluggish system, a colonic or an enema can make you feel much better... especially if your issues are related to being backed up.

And as a side-note on professional and home colonics - it isn't really a hose that's shoved up there. Typically its a tube about the size of a drinking straw. Additionally, suction is not used.

  • Taken from Essene Gospel of Peace Book 1...

Seek, therefore, a large trailing gourd, having a stalk the length of a man; take out its inwards and fill it with water from the river which the sun has warmed. Hang it upon the branch of a tree, and kneel upon the ground before the angel of water, and suffer the end of the stalk of the trailing gourd to enter your hinder parts, that the water may flow through all your bowels. Afterwards rest kneeling on the ground before the angel of water and pray to the living God that he will forgive you all your past sins, and pray the angel of water that he will free your body from every uncleanness and disease. Then let the water run out from your body, that it may carry away from within it all the unclean and evil-smelling things of Satan. And you shall see with your eyes and smell with your nose all the abominations, and uncleannesses which defiled the temple of your body; even all the sins which abode in your body, tormenting you with all manner of pains. I tell you truly, baptism with water frees you from all of these. Renew your baptizing with water on every day of your fast, till the day when you see that the water which flows out of you is as pure as the river's foam. Then betake your body to the coursing river, and there in the arms of the angel of water render thanks to the living God that he has freed you from your sins. And this holy baptizing by the angel of water is: Rebirth unto the new life. For your eyes shall henceforth see, and your ears shall hear. Sin no more, therefore, after your baptism, that the angels of air and of water may eternally abide in you and serve you evermore.

I do get colonics. My colon hygienist is the best. She's very well educated and sensible. She told me that she doesn't think that everyone has tons of stuff stuck to the colon and thinks that's a poor reason to get a colonic in the first place. She explained that colonics are best used to keep the colon working well and to promote good eliminations. When my friend and I went to see her the first time, she gave us each a different suggestion for when to return. When we asked her why, she said it was because we each had different lifestyles and ways of eating, and that our bodies reacted differently to the colonics. As soon as i began to use the bathroom more frequently on my own, she said it was time to see her less! How honest is that?!

If you are ever in New York City, you should definitely look her up. You won't believe her name, it's Sharon Stone. She's totally awesome!
