Candida!? Confused, please help!

JaimeReksJaimeReks Raw Newbie

Hello everyone! I rarely ever post, but I read goneraw constantly! Love this place!!!

I’m totally new to raw, been trying to go raw on and off for months though, but now I’m finally feeling at peace with it, and eating around 90%-100% raw regularly.

Now! I have been reading about candida, and thought I sounded like a likely candidate, so I did the spit test this morning. I did have a sip of water, then about an hour later I did it, so I don’t know if that would of affected the test or not, but it came out positive for me(I’ll do it again tomorrow to be sure.)

Any ideas on how to deal with this if it is positive? I doubt my doctor would be too interested in helping me deal with this naturally:) Even my doctor who happens to be vegan doesn’t seem to helpful(just talks about B12 and doesn’t listen.)

I appreciate any comments, tips, advice, and I find this website incredible, and has helped me tremendously, all of you guys are awesome!

Thanks so much!

By the way! A little history, in case it matters:) I just turned 19, and I’ve been vegetarian for 8 years, strict vegan for 3 years, and last year I have had small amounts of dairy, but still pretty strict vegan;) now the past few weeks have been mostly raw, and I’m still transitioning, hoping to be around 95% for good soon. I lost around 70+ lbs when I was 13-15, going from over 200 lbs to around 140-130, and after that(maintaining a weight from 145-130) I’ve pretty much been sick every 6 months or less, from mono, to strep 3-5 times, flus, colds, salmonella poisoning, bronchitis, and lots of other things! I also have POTS and I also have breast cysts. TMI yet?? :)Thanks again for any help!!!

  • Oh do I know all about having candida! I’ve actually come to the raw lifestyle as a means to rid myself of it. My candida manifests mostly as skin issues. Do a websearch and look for anti-candida foods, ones that won’t promote it’s growth. Coconut and coconut butter are AMAZING for treating candida, as well as Grapefruit seed extract. Anyways, there are tons of resources about it online!

Awesome. I’ll look it up! Thanks so much. Have you noticed much difference since changing diet and such to rid yourself of it?

Well, thanks again! I decided I am going to stick to 100% raw, for the most part – not going to get picky with the “raw” almond ordeal for my almond milk that I barely drink :), and cut down on the fruit and way up the veggies. We’ll see if that does the trick.

  • I’m also dealing with Candida. I know I’ve had it for years, and have so many of the symptoms… and just took the spit test a couple of days ago and it was positive. So, I’m cutting out all sugar: dates, fruit, honey, agave, etc. Also, cutting out all grains. I’m also taking Candex, which naturally attacks the cell walls of the yeast. My friend recommended it, so I started taking it and wow, I already feel a difference after just a few days.

I anticipate it will take me several months to get back into balance, as I’ve had this for years. So, I’m also taking probiotics to help build up my healthy flora.

I didn’t realize coconut was good, but that’s good because I have a bunch of it here… but I like to mix it with sweetners so that will be tough… oh well.

  • Hi, I’m new and another likely candidate for candida. LITTLEGEMS, what kind of probiotics are you taking? The ones I saw in the store were dairy-based. ‘Just curious.

if you think about candida in a simpler way—fermentation between the cells, it’s A LOT easier to deal with. i’ve tried anti-candida “diets” and i can never stick to them because they are SO SO SO constricting. plus, i don’t think fruit is EVIL. =)

the best things you can do for yourself to prevent fermentation is:

    1) (most important!) don’t eat between meals.

    2) drink a vegetable juice every morning. it alkalizes the acids between the cells… effectively giving you a little inner bath.

    3) try progressively lowering your intake of food. this takes a LONG time, but having less to digest is helpful is preventing fermentation. tea works really well for me at curbing my hunger. PAU D’ARCO herbal tea is anti-fungal. great for candida! i also like white and green tea between meals. another idea if you get hungry mid-day is to have another vegetable juice.

    4) foods like dates, bananas, carrots, etc… can inflame the candida, so have them in moderation, and eat them with something to “pad” them a little. like if you are going to have a banana, make a green smoothie. i find frozen bananas to be far less yeast-causing for some reason. hmmmm…

    good luck!

You people will never escape Candida by cutting out sugar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got rid of my Candida in a week by cutting out FATS! Fat makes the processes in the cells slower, so the sugar stays in the cells and Candida can feed on them. Cut out fats for 1-2 weeks and you will feel like a brand new person. Cutting out sugars are crazy. Our brain runs on sugars. Fats can be severely restricted for a week or two and it’s okay.

JaimeReks: What is this “spit test” you speak of?

    NM i found it http://www.adhdrelief.com/CandidaTest.html

  • I beat my Candida last year with a combo of dietary restrictions (don’t forget giving up Vinegar and any alcohol!) and supplements.

First I did something called TriGuard, which is Grapefruit Seed Extract, Collodial Gold and Tea Tree Oil. Nasty stuff! My mouth tasted like I’d chewed on a grapefruit rind for months! I made a lot of progress on this, though.

Then I did Collodial Silver. That kicked it the rest of the way.

If I knew then what I know now, I’d have used MMS. That stuff kills all of your nasties while leaving your friendlies intact.

From what I’ve been able to discern, any dietary restrictions take quite a while to work, depending on the severity of your Candida overgrowth. I did diet and supplements for about 10 weeks and I truly turned my health around.

    Here’s wishing you rapid success!

  • I've been eating raw for a month, trying to kick candida (overgrowth in my digestive track). It wasn't until I went toward 80/10/10 (cutting fats WAY back) that I feel like I'm making progress. I feel fine eating fruits, but as soon as I have a handful of nuts I start to not feel so good. It's been a week, but I'm liking the thought of gaining on this thing!
