Braggs Amino

What is Braggs Amino and where do I find it? (What section of health food store/Trader Joe’s/Whole Foods?)

Comments

  • Braggs Aminos is not raw.. but if you are not 100% then i dont see why not.. you can get it at albertsons (surprisngly), whole foods, health stores, etc

  • Most health food stores have it around the spice/condiment area. Look by soy sauces. Get a big one and a small spray bottle one. I love that for misting greens!

  • Not raw but contains sixteen essential and non-essential amino acids.

  • I use Nama Shoyu soy sauce instead. It is raw and has a similar taste. You can purchase a spray bottle used to aerosolize cooking oils at a department or cooking store, fill it with the Nama Shoyu and you have a similar raw product. Are you using it as a seasoning or for the aminos? I do not know where you live however, you can purchase it online from the distributor at <http://www.goldminenaturalfood.com> Their toll free # if you prefer is: 800-475-FOOD (3663). A 32 oz. bottle runs about $15.00 but it goes a long way. Gold Mine has a 64 oz size available online as well. A group of us attended the RawSpiritFest in Sedona, AZ last year (2007) and had the opportunity to meet Patricia Bragg, hat and all! She is quite an inspiration and is still going strong. Her family are pioneers of the healthy living movement. I remember using Braggs back in the 1970’s. She is a true testament to how a healthy lifestyle greatly improves not only your quality of life but your joy.

Hallelujah acres says not to use brags because its a non fermented soy product that contains naturally occurring MSG. YES, MSG. They say that a natural sea such such as Celtic salt is better. I use real salt as it seems like that bran is what our health food store provides. Namu Shoyu soy sauce MIGHT be just as bad a braggs. I do not know, that is why I would try to stay away from Soy.

BUT, as Dr. Schulze said, he would tell his patients (only the ones who would not go vegan and do mainly raw foods) to go on a diet where they ate WHATEVER it took to get them away from animal foods. So, they had their soy burgers and soy milk and soy cheese (not really vegan because of casein…the protein that causes mucus). But you know what, they would feel better eating vegan “junk” than they ever felt eating all the other stuff. So, if braggs is what it takes to get you into a raw food diet, GO FOR IT. otherwise, I personally would leave it out. And as for the aminos, people should be taking things like wheatgrass juice everyday. It detoxifies their body and it gives them energy and is have more protein than beef! Also, bee pollen is great too. Good for b vitamins (including b12) and it gives you a lot of energy and is said to help with allergies.

I personally only had wheatgrass juice made from the blender and mixed in with carrot and apple juice. It was not a lot of wheatgrass and they say not to use a blender but, it had gotta be better than nothing. I am going to get a wheatgrass juicer and also start taking bee pollen as well as Indian gooseberry which is very potent and said to help with eyesight (I need that).

Check out www.greenherbcafe.com for herbs and for wheatgrass juice powder as well as beet powder and the indian gooseberry. They also sell bee pollen but I found that it was $7.00 a pound at the health food store so I will buy it there. They say that this wheatgrass powder is like 14 oz. but you only take 1 tsp a day or so so it is a 3-4 month supply.

Sorry if I get a little off topic there…

  • I agree, whatever it takes for one to cut out the animal products/go raw. I will look into the naturally occuring MSG in soy. The fact that it is “naturally occuring” however, I think, makes it different than the synthesized MSG we are accustomed to. Is not the premise of the raw lifestyle consuming foods that have been grown in their natural state? When we consume vitamins and minerals in their natural state (from food), unless we eat massive amounts it is not toxic whereas a supplement is (Vit A, Selemiun for example.) I will definitely look into that fact however, thanks for the info.

Speaking about MSG, I saw a couple weeks ago that Gordon Food Service (store that sells more in bulk for consumers and restaurants) sells MSG in a large spice size container. So, we could buy it and use it for our food. What will they think of next????? Funny. Must be because restaurants and school cafeterias need it to make their crappy food taste good. Then everyone loves it.

  • vicken2tekdivin – FYI Nama Shoyu is not raw. sorry :(

  • Thanks everyone. I have seen Braggs Amino in many recipes but did not know what it was or if I really needed it. Now I know I do not!

  • What about Tamari??
