books, references, and all sources of information

hello!! i was wondering if some of you could suggest good reference sources that would explain the overall (and detail) health benefits of eating raw.

i’ve noticed that ever since i started eating mostly raw, that the quantity of sugar (fruits, etc.) and the quantity of fat (nuts and seeds) has increased. now, i’m not overweight, nor am i diabetic… but, i do have a history of both in my family and would like to avoid eating habbits that would condone such risks.

any feedback would be of much appreciation!

  • Brujja, what really helped me get started was Alissa Cohen’s book Living on Live Food. It is really geared toward the newbie but very useful for any raw foodist as it contains a lot of delicious and easy to make recipes, a reference section for online or mail order raw food stores, a listing of other raw food sites, and a raw food restaurant list by state. Good luck on your journey! ~Elizabeth

  • Elizabrat, I agree, Alissa’s book is also one of my favs, too. I also have Living Cuisine, which is more gourmet but has a large choice of recipes without nuts, as well. Lately I have grown a far greater appreciation for Shazzie’s Detox Delights and Detox Your World books. Her recipes are geared toward simple and clean raw foods, with very little use of nuts. As kandace suggested in one of the forum topics I read here, avocados are a great alternative to nuts and seeds for satisfying those kinds of cravings. brujja, don’t forget the dark leafy greens in your diet! These really curb the sugar cravings and should be the largest part of the raw diet, not nuts and seeds. Use dark leafy greens in smoothies, salads, juice them or use in a variety of recipes. They are also fabulous with avocado which might help you nix the nut craving.
