Are sesame seeds heated when hulled?

Does anyone know about the hulling process of sesame seeds? Are they heated during the process? I wanted to buy some today but I wasn’t sure if they were actually raw, because this same store sells so-called “raw” almonds which are not really raw. Thank you.

  • I know the hulls have a lot of nutrition, so I’d avoid hulled for that reason alone.

Have you ever made tahini with the hulls on? Do the hulls change the flavor? I’m pretty sure that my HFS has the unhulled type. If the taste is OK I’ll get these istead to increase their nutritional value.

  • OK Guys I tryed sesame seeds YUCK

I tried to make tahini with the hulls and either the food processor does not work or I did not give it enough time. Our food processor is old. I did find however, that a salad made out of some kind of greens, raw sprouted lentils, grated sweet potatoes and grated carrots with sesame seeds sprinkled on the top and mixed in…tastes great!

Lately I’ve been enjoying a mixture of raw tahini, maple syrup (or your preferred sweetener), ground cocoa nibs, and a touch of no-alcohol vanilla extract. I use a fork to smooch it together. YUM!!! I have also made a mixture of raw tahini, maple syrup, and ground cinnamon (probably also good with a touch of vanilla extract or bean) that I spread on apple slices… another big YUM!!!
