Any Down East Maine recommendations?

The Fam. is heading to Boston and Maine for 10 days next week. I’m very familiar with the Boston Raw scene, but how about in and around Acadia? JoyceH—I need you! This includes eating out in normal family places that serve a fab. salad. I’ll need to locate fresh fruit!

Mainers? Can you lend this old raw girl a resource or 2? Still crossing my fingers…

There is a little coop in Blue Hill that I love. Also, Happycow.net has listings of health food stores/vegan places around the world. It’s a great resource.

I will get back to you after I ask my friends who are Acadia regulars…

Ok – good news and bad news. She said they’ve had very little luck finding good healthy food in that area, plenty of diners and lobster shacks. She does remember loving the Belfast Coop, which might be on your way up a couple of hours south, depending on how you go: http://www.belfast.coop/ She said everyone is super nice there and might be able to give you other eating ideas near Acadia, besides stocking up there on good food. She also recommended checking out Little Hunter’s Beach in Acadia. She called it “enchanted” but not for swimming – strong undertow. She said it’s usually very quiet and the beach is made up of funny pebbles that make a crazy sound and feeling when you walk on it. She said to look for it on the Acadia Park Loop map. Have fun!
