Anti 811 diet
I am gonna have to shoot over to that thread and see what "Healthy Raw Fooders" are eating!
I will say it blows my mind sometime. I admit I eat high fat foods but not ALL the TIME. I eat crap food when I have a had a hard day or such but it is still RAW. On the opposite side though I eat amazing salads with protein sources with a balance of fruit as well as low fat soups and pastas. I EAT and I eat good. It does seem to be a trend that people just eat a couple pieces of fruit and call it a day. I dont get it. This is supposed be a lifestyle of health and vibrance and I dont see it as often as I would like to around here. It is difficult to see so many E.D's around here. Hey I had one too and still struggle EVERYDAY with accepting myself but I see girls claiming "Recovery" and I can just smell the bs. I am hoping that raw foods isnt just a means of masking their still ongoing ED and that it is a healthful lifestyle full of abundant energy and positive life changes like it i for myself. To me it is all about changing my life and changing other's lives any way I can.
About this thread though, I hate seeing flame wars but in defense of all the 'haters' here, there hasnt been another sample menu or anything. I am all for the concept but not for the consumption of so little!

but just to read it and blast it, is because somebody is asking questions
on why I need vitamins and minerals. Here is my quote in the book:

... I doubt I even ate as many calories as that run burned but I just completely lose my appetite after a run. It's weird.
that is called, KETOSIS. you are burning fat, as you ran out of carbs.

i also have anorexia for 12 years and i just want peace with my food i will not believe that natures food (FRUIT) is bad for you or makes you gain weight and for me also decreases my cravings!!!
im so thankful some ppl here are helping me also know its okay to eat more calories.

you do know that a lot of the fruit is altered, genetically?
you do know that banana's you eat, are totally green when picked,
and GASSED? not vined ripened. read up on it.

while it is nice to think we all live in the tropics, and all our food was vined ripened,
but you are NOT sure of your vitamin intake because the fruits were picked long ago. NOW WHAT?
should we just be safe and take one multi vitamin? too much actually acidic forming.

He's not saying don't take a multivit. And from the very beginning, it was clear to me that the menu listed was just an example of the TYPE of food and ratios to eat, not exact amounts. He has repeatedly said to eat as much as you want. I never got the impression he was saying fruit was bad, either. this is just another way to eat that he has found works for him, and apparently other people. And it's not no carbs, it's low carbs. Everyone should educate themselves and do what they think is best for them. I don't think this is the greatest way to eat for me, but it's a hell of a lot better than what lots of people live on. It would be nice if people would figure out what he was saying, or ask, before jumping all over him about something he never meant. Haven't been on this site for a long time, and I don't like the vibe I'm getting now.
Honestly, Shellebell, I have no clue how to respond to your posts. It's just a different writing style or incomplete thoughts or something.....I think many of us have experienced a low-fruit lifestyle of some sort.

Why is this called an "anti-811 diet"?
That's like calling omnivores "the anti-vegan diet."
Why is the starting point for the diet being against something else? You might want a more positive, upbeat name.
well superfood, i thought this would get the point across of what it is.
it is very negative. i was not sure i would keep it. I was just shocked at
how easy it was to stay on raw ketosis just by add the carbs. i did atkins and that was brutal.
I WAS A BIT SHOCKED.
and, the diet has been a big success and a big failure.
the failure is, as you and everybody knows, it is very hard to digest fat, esp with elderly.
some of the elderly did not digest them well. i added lemon juice in a glass of water (suppliment the gastric acid0
and plant based digestive enzymes, and 14% still had problems. So i can't keep them on it more then about a week.
i don't want anybody getting hurt. i call it a failure of a sorts.
the success is, they are all ready to come off it at about 5 days. IT WAS WEIRD. ALL 54 OF THEM.
when they went on it, they were all carb junkies to the max, most border diabetics. now, they don't have that carb addiction,
and are eating veggies, that are frozen and thawed under hot water. pea's, corn, green beans. They are eating
that fat free catalina dressing to the max, and using mashed potato's with gravy as energy. now they are all losing
weight (i hate when i can't even get a bp cuff around some of those big arms.)
not all raw, but they seem happy. will it last? no idea. right now, there are no candy bars, and choc cravings.
see how long that last.
some i have to give rancid fish oil to - doctors orders, but all their blood pressures are back to normal after 10 days,
on ketosis or veggies.
some people need recipes and i send them here.

I have a couple questions...are you just experimenting on these elderly people in your care?? Do you have their consent...do you have their caretakers/guardians consent and is it fully disclosed consent?? I've noticed that you have mentioned doing this diet with elderly people a couple of times, and from the studies I have read...most elderly peoples kidneys' can not tolerate going into ketosis, it would most likely cause kidney failure. How much research, specifically in regards to persons of advanced age and with the diseases most prevalent in an elderly state, has gone into this before you have tried it out with them?? I'm totally uncomfortable with how you have presented this...you can track through every single one of my posts and you will see that I am one of the least negative or inflammatory people you'll find, but this is sending up a huge red flag!!
Lulushka-yeah, planning is big. However, I find that even when I plan I just simply don't want to eat. There is a very small window which I have an appetite and it's in the evening. I try to make up alot of my calories during that time but I'm not sure if I do.
I have no balance in my diet as all my calories are between 7-8pm besides some of the fruit I eat at work. Even if I bring sun-cheese and carrots I still find that I don't eat it. I get grossed out by food during the day.
I have been really trying lately though and think I'm improving. Just knowing that I'm burning calories from running and not making it up in food....or even eating as much as I'm burning makes me panic a little and force myself to have something.
i suggest a bananas and dates smoothie, troubles. i make a smoothie before i go cycling that's about 1500 calories in pure blended fruit. and the taste...my god it's heavenly. easy calories, though, is the point!
I don't really know how to respond to this either. you can get wild fruit and organic tree ripened from a lot of places. I gorge on fruit all day and have optimal energy. It's not like vegetables aren't altered or modified either. You act like fruit is a poison. fruit is my magic food. you even say in your article that the diet makes you stink and you need mints to carry around. why would you need that? and plus, the whole point of a raw diet is to be free with eating habits as long as they're healthy. everyone's entitled to their beliefs, you're entitled to yours, and thats fine. just this seems likeyour discriminating against a high fruit diet.
