is agave raw?

im pretty sure someone has already asked about this, but i couldnt find the post.

anyway, i’ve got “raw blue agave” from wholesome sweetners. is this actually considered “raw”? i’ve heard a lot of people say that agave is definately not raw, even if it is called that on the lable.

  • The agave I have says it was processed below 115 degrees on the label. Besides that I can’t comment on it’s rawness. Have you used yours at all?

  • Agave is the liquid found in a huge cactus mainly in the Mexican desert. The liquid in it’s raw state is not sweet at all. If you ever have been to a maple sugar party and tasted the maple sap before it is processed you will get the idea. It needs to be heated and processed to get the sweet taste. Even if the label indicates that it was processed below some temperature most likely there were times in the process where it was at a higher temperature. It is difficult to get the stuff to taste sweet without heat. If you are really interested in health and not just eating for entertainment you will forget this product even exists.

We use dates instead. You can blend them with water to get a sweet syrup

  • I’m not crazy about the agave. It’s too sweet and makes me really thirsty. I prefer dates any day.
