That sounds amazing! I’m starting a water fast on Monday(six days) so I think I’ll do green smoothies after that!

  • I started the diva’s 7 day detox today, think I’ll try just green smoothies once it ends.

  • i’m on my second day of the diva’s detox and loving it! and my name is Lauren too…weird!

  • browniesbrownies Raw Newbie

so your ONLY eating green smoothies? are the green smoothies exactly the same or are you switching it up a bit?

  • I know that I should have green smoothies daily but the thought just doesn’t sound good. I’m sure they are great if you know how to make them right, how do you make them?

  • browniesbrownies Raw Newbie

stephanie I think it really depends on personal taste but here is the one I have been making a lot lately: 1/2 bananna handful of blueberries handful of grapes huge handful of spinage homemade almond milk

sometimes I add coconut cream/milk, take out the blueberries & grapes and exchange them for peanut butter but it really just depends on what I want & what my body is telling me it needs.

  • I read in “The Raw Food Detox Diet” about food combining and not mixing veggies and fruit. Has anyone else read this and do think it actually makes a difference? Mixing fruit and greens would really make me want to try green smoothies.

  • browniesbrownies Raw Newbie

yes, according to food combining vegis shouldn’t be mixed with fruit, however greens are considered ok to mix with fruit. Hence spinach, any type of greens are fine though.

  • Okay I must have missed that somewhere. Thank you for the tips. I’ll have to try it out.

  • I am with you because today I started my 30 day, one a day green smoothie quest. I got my blender last week, got a huge crop of weeds growing on the property so I am ready to take off. Today was great. I had the weeds(dwarf mallow, purslane, and dandelion), kale, frozen banana, mango, and a small apple. That was yummy beyond words!

  • bittbitt Raw Newbie

good for you! I will be with ya for breakfast at least. :-)

wow, seems like we’ve got a lot of green smoothie love goin on up in here!

I started this whole thing because I just…FELT like it?! I just felt it was the right thing to do. And it is! I was having a bit of frustration with balancing foods in terms of sugars/fats/greens/grains etc, so a couple days ago i threw everything I had in my fridge left into a blender, said “wow, i should do this for a few more days…” and here I am :)

I’ve been steadily having a smoothie of a pear, a couple blueberries, spinach, coconut milk, and water, or sometimes a banana instead of a pear. I like the idea of sticking with the same foods for 3ish days at a time, like going to the store and buying only a few items and using them in their absolute entirety.

I’m keeping a full-blown blog at RawFu at http://raw100.ning.com/profile/Chelsea , so I encourage you all to go and check it out if you’re doin the green smoothie thing too. The best part about all this is that my mom is doing it too! Gotta love her, like mother like daughter. :)

Today, I noticed that my posture has improved, and I finally have those babyblues back that had been gone for a few months on my low-raw depressive winter state. I feel like I’m back to being my TRUE, puuuuuuure self! I don’t know why sticking to only liquids is doing this, but it is, and I do not want to stop anytime soon…

StephanieWithOpenEyes—-> In terms of not combining fruits and veggies, it’s ok when it’s all blended together first before consumption. See, every fruit and vegetable has different properties and therefore take their own individual times to digest and eventually become liquid in the body. When they’re combined, the acids and gases and juices have to work harder to digest instead of taking their time with individual foods. BUT if they’re broken down into liquids BEFORE entering the body, then everything’s all dandy.

Brownies—->yes, I am only eating green smoothies. I made a watermelon-cucumber smoothie yesterday, but added cilantro, and found it even more hydrating and satisfying!

TroublesJustABubble—-> That sounds awesome. My mom is doing the same thing right now! She has just finished 7 days of water fasting, and now is transitioning back to foods with green smoothies, and it is working fabulously for her. My advice, judging from her experiences thus far, is to drink slowly. It is easy, after fasting for so long, to want to gulp, but just remember to sip. Or, you could even eat it with a spoon out of the bowl. Also, she started with smoothies that had tons of water in them as the base, and then moved into smoothies with less water, and more juices and heavier foods after her body was used to digesting again.

rosehebrew—->awesome! 30 days! I might be with you, we’ll see after August. My plan right now is to go at least until Sept 1st, and then after that, who knows?

BeTheChange-okay, thanks for the tip. I have avoided smoothies(besides nanamilk) for a while because I always drink them waaay to fast and feel sick afterwards. More water is a good idea too.

Day 1 of my water fast is going well. Was it a really hard fast for your mom?

  • BeTheChange- Thank you so much for breaking it down and explaining the food combining in smoothie/juice form to me, it really helped me understand. I’m planning on going to the store and getting more greens and I’m climbing on board too. Better late than never! I’ll be starting tomorrow 8/26 but will have to break it on 9/4 which is my birthday because I plan to go to a raw/vegan restaurant with my family that night.

  • Yay! You are all inspiring me! I have a green smoothie each morning but all day would be fab! I had some troubling times a couple months ago and was unable to eat solid food. I drank only fresh almond milk with the occasional banana and/or cacao nibs. I felt and looked better than ever! Thanks for reminding/inspiring me!

As I mentioned in another thread, I too am going for an extended green smoothie diet, and last night, while on day 1, I saw the movie Iron Man, where after he crashes and is injured, he is seen drinking a green smoothie, and then refilling from the blender, while doing some design work. It was a fun coincidence.

Rock on green smoothies in movies:) I think Will Smith may have had one in I am Legend as well. I could be remembering the wrong movie, but I think it was that one! I would LOVE to go on a 7 day of green smoothies run. I have one or two a day, but man, they make life easier and, a little tidbit, I have been pet sitting lately and for a couple of days I didn’t have my morning green smoothie, and with drinking 10-12 cups of water without doing too much physical exercise, I still COULD NOT get hydrated. I was eating cooked food, and man I can feel it. Raw time for me!!!!

Can anyone tell me where i can find FREE info on the 7 Day Diva Diet? I’d really like to try this since i hear wonderful things… I’ve never actually had a green smoothie – i tend to juice a lot… Are the green smoothies easier to get down than green juices? Thanks!

  • carrie, http://www.therawdivas.com/ is the website to try the 7 day diva diet. Green smoothies are so good it’s impossible not to get them down! much tastier than green juice, I think. Plus they are easier to clean up than a juicer, and you get all that nutritious fiber right in your smoothie! Try 40% greens and 60% fruit (using both fresh and frozen fruit if you like your smoothie cold) and about 1/2 cup of water. Delish!

  • i tried to be only green juice since you BeTheChange began but could not! i am traveling and this made me give up! at home i am having Green Lemonade with some variation every morning! this is really the best! as a green fruit, i did not see any of you use kiwi and it is very taste and juicefull on the juicer!!!! try it! i will be following you so that when i arrive back home, September 3 i can have my green smothies 10 or more days! Namaste!

  • Okay not to get off topic to much of this 10 day green smoothie thing, BUT can anyone tell me about the 7 Day Diva Diet that has done it? I’m curious to do it but want to know others opinions on it first.

PS I haven’t done my 10 days of green smoothies because people at work are catching on to how I’m eating and suddenly this week decided to bring in raw foods to share. I’m not going to pass that up! What great support!

  • Can anyone tell me about the 7 Day Diva Diet and experiences from it?

  • carrie6292carrie6292 Raw Newbie

Stephanie – i’m in the “pre-detox” period right now. I think it’s Monday that i start it. When i finish, i’ll try to remember to come back and post what i thought… What i know is that it starts with a 24hour water fast. Being raw for a year, i had never actually had a green smoothie.. today i had one just to test the waters and it was pretty good… simple, but good and filling! I’m sure i’ll do find on my 10 days.

  • Stephanie~ I did it and it was good. But I could’ve made more of it. I love the program…it teaches not only good self-control, gives great weight loss…helps us not to seek so much stimulation, eating for eating…if ya know what I mean…but I was always trying to get something super flavourful and rich from just veggies and fruit…if I did it again…I would change my mindset a bit first. But I did like it very much!! It’s really what you make of things like that.
