Rice and beans...my comfort food for sure. Its so interesting how your taste buds really do change after being Raw. I used to live on sweets, its all I wanted, especially chocolate. Now, if I crave a cooked food, its something like beans, or a piece of sprouted bread.
I treat myself with good, ripe fruit. I spend lots of time (which I do normally, anyway) cuddling with my girlfriend, and sometimes i'll just write about how I feel.
Well this isn't exactly a food, but it definitely isn't raw. I always have a cigarette after sex. I know it's awful. but 'll only smoke american spirits on account of them not adding chemicals or testing on animals....and they just reeeaaallly hit the spot sometimes. haha :)

KImchi!! Its just that when I make it, it usually turns out so nice that I eat if before it manages to ferment.. So I usually end up eating my Korean flatmate's shop bought kimchi.
I agree with eecho, prayer and meditation really do help. Also, journaling about what you are feeling and what is bothing/stressing you. Talking about what has happened can help to. If you deal with the emotions, the emotional eating will become somthin that you just do feel the need to do.
SV3 - I never liked/drank coffee either, never a tea drinker either, just herbal.
I handle low fat vegan cooked food well too, so i have nice home-cooked wholefood meals once in a while in the winter. I would usually go for lentils with bulgar wheat/rice, or wholemeal bread and tomatoes, or wholemeal pasta with tomato sauce. Just those three things.
It really depends how i'm feeling but i like to have a cooked meal now and again like in the weekend. Other times i try to be as raw and clean as possible. 8)
YES, stop!! Caffeine is a stimulant, its addictive, and its no good for our body. You will definitely feel much better if you do not drink coffee. There are many studies showing the downside to coffee, here is one: The Toxic Effects of Coffee
I used to binge on hard days. I used to eat pizza during midterms when I was completely stressed out. I am not sure exactly what has changed. I haven't comfort ate on processed or non-vegan food in a long time. A lot of my progress has to do with my religious beliefs. For example, instead of going to food for comfort I will pray. This is often very effective for me. I do this when I am fasting as well. However, I can't say that I always did this or always do this now. Sometimes in my addiction I would not want to pray. I would want the physical stimulation over the spiritual stimulation, or I would trick myself in some way or another. In those times I would either binge or manage to find comfort from some other place, like extra sleep or meditation.
But I think part of it is simply time. At first you are used to being able to numb your emotions with food, but over time this habit diminishes naturally. As long as you remain honest with yourself about your actions and have your "eye on the prize", you will continue to make progress. That's why its a journey
I spend 200 dollars a week for groceries, but I'm buying for 5 people. All of us eat a lot of fruit, and the rest of the family eats meat, pastas and rice.
I think you can spend smaller amounts if you eat what is in season. Any time I see out of season fruits on sale, I buy a ton.
Bellasera, I know some days I eat very little, but I make up for it the next day. Yesterday, all I ate was a smoothie, some cashew cheese with some baby carrots, then for dinner I ate two cups of baby spinach with half of a tomato, and some cashew cheese as my dressing.
Every time I go 100% raw, I end up with next to no appetite after a while, and I forget to eat. I know this is a recipe for a future binge on junk if I keep eating like that. So, today I am making sure I eat. I end up grazing all day usually.
oh my gosh, since i've been advised to not be raw this winter (i'd been having super-low energy), i've been eating bob's red mill 8 grain whole grain hot cereal, and holy crow, my winter is made. fannnnntastic.
I wish! I have been raw for about 2 years. I was 100% raw now im about 80%. I totally agree with needing less food but I spend at least $150 a week on grocieries. I also usually purchase a salad or salad ingredients for lunch. I buy all organic so it adds to the cost. I still have yet to be able to live inexpensivly on raw foods.
Bellasera since you have been raw for 6 yrs, do you mind me asking what is your weight? I know one woman who has been raw for about 4 yrs, and she is less than 100 lbs. I am also very petite but definetly not under 100 lbs. I am worried about what I will look like in a couple years if I stick with Raw...
Hi Bellasera...I spend about $30-40 a week on fruit and veggies. A little more if I am out of stock of nuts and have to pick those up. I try to buy the fruit that is on sale and any inexpensive organic I find. You are right, after so long your body feels more content on less. I love RAW because I go home after work and I'm not even hungry for dinner most days. I eat less but am so filled up with good food and nutrients, my body is content! Since going raw , I have yet to get the 'shakes' from being too hungry. One day I was out and about for practically the entire day being busy and was not able to stop and eat. I realized at the end of the day, I did not even feel I needed to eat. Of course I did, tho :) But still, what a Great feeling!!
Constipation... try a couple of tablespoons of black strap molasses with warm water. Or 2 tbsp of organic ACV (apple cider vinegar) daily will help too..
We have been enjoying greenies for the past few years as the better part of our raw diet. We love the fresh, "green" taste. We love the convenience of it!
One can make as smooth as it appeals to one's taste. Baby spinach, smoothest. Then the rest, kale, chard, parsley, cilantro, new leaves from citrus trees, celery, basil, with fruits. A little chunk of avocado will make any greenie into a velvety delight. (Personally I like them a bit more watery, diluted with pure water). I use mainly bananas, strawberries (always available in Bay Area) and in season fruits. We freeze fruit in season for later use (winter time). My formula: in a Vitamix, 2 cups of water, 3 handfuls of greens, 1 cup strawberries (handful), 1 banana, mix. Half a honeydew melon, 1/2 bunch of cilantro or Italian parsley, no water, mix. Add a little ice to any for a cooler experience. And don't forget cold soups (and hot, of course).
When possible go organic with thin skinned veggies and fruits, and ALL greens. Know your dirty and clean veggies and fruits. We, well, I combine anything.. it can only taste bad, it will never be bad for you. Fresh veggies and fruits please. No canned or processed anything, anything please. Do you promise? Good.
Most important, the RIGHT equipment. Any Vita Mix (more power) product. The Montel Williams Machine as seen on TV. Both have the power to pulverize! Kitchen appliances, blenders, food processors and juicers just do not make greenies properly. They just are not up to the task... EMULSIFY!
PULVERIZE!
Greenies are 50% of our 85% raw vegan food diet. The only supplement we take is complex B vitamin, once a week. You will learn to love greenies, They make you feel, ENERGIZED! And healthy, of course. Remember, Fresh and alive GREEN is what you're after, fruit makes it more acceptable to the new pallet. GREEN.
I have used it for over a year as a natural dewormer, detoxifier and it has done wonders for my immune system! No flu shot for me. I also have used it to deworm and deflea my cats and horses. No chemicals is what I like the best. I found diatomaceous earth in Canada. British Columbia I believe. The site is www.diatomearthoutwest.ca. There is alot of information on all its uses including human consumption, pet and livestock as well as horticultural. I believe it to be a miracle!
Hello codex means recognized standards for purity and identity of food ingredients. Food Grade Diatomaceous earth receives a codex grade therefore making it 100% safe for human consumption. There is alot of information on all its uses including human consumption, pet and livestock as well as horticultural at www.diatomearthoutwest.ca. It is a Canadian site based out of British Columbia, Canada. I use it and so does all my animals! I love it!
Hey Cami - I'm trying to get well from Addison's Disease, another autoimmune related disorder, and I definitely have major ups and downs, more so than most raw foodies. I think some of it is related to detox, but I definitely think that people like us are way more sensitive to flu bugs and environmental influences. We either under-react or over-react (or both!) when our bodies are trying to fight something. But the less crap we give it to deal with, the better!
Good luck on your healing journey and I look forward to reading your blog! I started one too but have been pretty bad at keeping up with it. You've inspired me to give it some attention! So, thanks for that ;)

molasses aren't raw and are a refined sugar :( and vinegars off for me too.

I'm going to try the whipped parsnips, and some marinated mushrooms, an awesome green salad and something for dessert.

I'd be broke but I use food stamps and all other State aid you could imagine. Gotta love the nanny state! Socialism rules.
