I love the taste of tahini, but have only used in in dips and sauces until recently. Now, we have the smoothie and the "cookie dough recipe":http://goneraw.com/recipes/177-Raw-Chocolate-Chip-Cookie-Dough (which sounds delicious) to add to the mix!
bq. I do want to ask you though, how big a dehydrator you have?
I have a 5 tray Excalibur, but only used 2 trays with this recipe (I put all of the chips really close together like puzzle pieces). I wonder if my yams were just small - they were from a local organic farm. Next time I make this recipe, I'll try to remember to check the weight of the yams.
Fasting is definately about feeling great. I have never done a juice fast. I only drink water while fasting. I am only hungry for the first day. For the next few days, everything is a bit foggy. But after that, your body continues to cleanse and everything is so clear in my mind and instead of time passing me by, it seems as tho time is not moving and I can go along at my own pace. Definately relaxed. It’s because I’m getting all the toxins out of my body.
It sounds funny, it alomost feels like being stoned. But its not foggy, you don’t get tired and it’s healthy for you!! A true natural high!
If you want more info just google fasting and nautral hygiene. Soime good stuff will should come up.
Yeah, that be especially good for some ingredients that are less well known. I was surprised to discover that people do not know about papayas or mangos.
Thanks! One thing we were thinking of adding was information about the ingredients. Say you have a “squash” as an ingredient in your recipe, for example. When someone looks at the recipe, maybe the word “squash” could become a link (if we had info on what a squash was) and if one clicked on it, they would be able to find out all about that particular ingredient, maybe even with a picture.
I was thinking that it would make it a lot easier for beginners to figure out what the heck they had to look for in the grocery store, and why it was so healthy for them, and so on.
If folks are interested in this idea, and might even want to help out, that would be awesome – let us know!
I did find this link for making a dehydrator. My DH is quite handy (and bragging he can make a better one) so I thought I’d give this a try before shelling out mega-bucks and buying one.
I enjoy the process of cleansing. My first cleanse was a 2-week program offered through our nutritionist. It was right when I was transitioning away from dairy and into a vegan, raw diet so it helped quite a bit to work on getting detoxed and disrupting my routine enough that the change in diet was much easier.
I’ve also joined Ray on a couple short Master Cleanses. I’m thinking that, because the raw diet is so cleansing, the Master Cleanse worked quite quickly. After 3 or four days, I had gone from white tongue (a sign your body is detoxing) to pink tongue (a sign you are through) even though the cleanse usually lasts 10+ day. Made me even more excited about raw food!
Hi Hleva: Please correct me if I’m wrong, but this latest post appears to be information on a product you are selling. We’d like to keep the regular forum areas free of such ads, but would love to hear about your raw products. In keeping with this, there is a section in the forums called Talk it Up dedicated to products, events, etc. Please feel free to talk your products up all you’d like in this area. Thank you!
Here is a tip from a (Japanese) friend: always drink a large glass of water when eating chocolate or nuts (and don’t eat those things every day). I rarely remembered to do this, but it did work.
For me, I tend to break-out when my liver is overloaded. My guess would be that a detox program would make the breakouts worse before they got better—kind of a cleansing reaction. The stuff has to be eliminated in some manner and your skin is one of your body’s organs of elimination.
You also want to be careful not to overdo it with cleansers and exfoliation because you can actually stimulate oil production and make things worse.
CleopatraNI: My understanding is that Nama Shoyu is the very same thing as soy sauce except that it is raw. (Nama is the Japanese word for Raw)
Bragg’s would be at a healthfood store, if it is available.
A healthier alternative to soy sauce is Tamari Sauce (althought I cannot recall why—I have the impression that it is less processed and is wheat-free). It isn’t raw though.
Ok, so I’ve been suffering from quite severe acne for a almost 10 years now. I know my pic doesn’t look like it, but trust me on this, it’s not just something I’m saying. My back and face constantly breaks out and I’ve tried pretty much every single skincare product out there, including Proactiv, Clinique and even laser treatment aswell as Dead Sea Products. Let’s just say it’s cost my parents a small fortune and could probably have sent me halfway through college. LoL!
I did notice an improvement after going vegetarian and a more noticable improvement after I went vegan, but I’m still not satisfied. My condition is more than likely caused by me suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which I have also noticed has improved after going vegan. I hardly ever have attacks anymore and if I do it’s when I’ve had some really spicy food.
But… I went on a 15-day detox programme and I had great faith it would make my skin pretty much perfect but it didn’t. My bowels have never moved easier in my life on the other hand, but my skin is still not where I want it to be.
When I thought I had an overgrowth of Candida before I was diagnosed with IBS I went through a three month period where I didn’t TOUCH sugar in any form. Not even fruits I ate and I felt somewhat deprived so when I thought I was well again I went back to eating fruits, but then my skin jumped right back to being fugly.
I’m in quite desperate need of advice here. I don’t want to cut out fruit completely from my diet, I love it and would feel incredibl deprived if I was to live on a raw veg diet only. My boyfriend suffered from Eczema and Psoriasis and he’s been going to a acupunturist and says it’s helped him alot (We live in different countries atm)
gypsyIX, When I sprout buckwheat, I find I have to rince A LOT. It gets that thick, slimy water off of it, so I just make sure I rinse it till the water is clear and normal. I also leave it in a darker, cooler corner of the kitchen (but still on the counter) and keep a paper towel over it. I also tend to toss them around in the bowl every once in a while to make sure the same ones aren’t always stuck at the bottom. But mainly, I think its about rinsing and draining.
Just so you know, the Recipe Box feature was added today. I’m waiting until tomorrow for a “formal announcement” because there’s sure to be some kinks to work out. You get to your Recipe Box by going to My Profile, and then click on My Recipe Box. Naturally, you have to be logged in! All recipes have a link on the right side, which lets you add it to, or remove it from, your recipe box. Let us know what you think!
We also took some time and reorganized the main recipe page as well. No more showing hundreds of recipes on one page! Also, you can now choose to see only recipes that use the equipment you have. Just look for the little check boxes on the right side of the screen. This is something we’ve wanted to add for a while. If you haven’t saved up for that dehydrator you’ve always wanted, you can just un-check the dehydrator box, and you won’t be shown recipes that need a dehydrator.
Ginger sounds like an interesting switch up. Do you grate fresh ginger?

It is the best price that I found.
Hope you enjoy it!
Sounds great! Where do you get raw carob powder?

I thought all guacamoles were raw. What do they do to the cooked ones?
so I did :) Sorry everyone!

Crisyn is right about the asian markets - I've seen some today, while shopping. :)

I think you forgot the link?
I dont eat either chocolate or nuts really… but drink lots of water.
Read this about so called “raw” concentrated sweeteners.

Heya James!
Hmmm. I could use a bit of bliss and euphoria right about now. Thanks for the nudge!
So did you do a juice fast or just water?

Hey Priceless One.
A friend of a friend of mine has recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s…
Any chance I can ask if I can put you two in touch with eachother and if so how.
As far as I know she is not even familiar with eating raw and is not a vegetarian at all. So it’s a good chance to ‘convert’ someone if you will.
I’m sure you guys can benefit from eachother’s experiences. Apparently she’s very scared it’s going to be fatal or something like that.
Please send me an email on tripchick@hotmail.com and I’ll put you guys in touch ;)
