I don't know all the answers, but I think the best thing you can do, is listen to your own body. Do what you need to do to feel your best mentally, and physically. We are all different, and have different needs.
I want to be able to stick to this type of eating, but I end up eating cooked food sometimes. I don't feel bad about it. The only time I feel bad, is if it makes me feel bad physically. From listening to my body, I know what I can, and can't tolerate, and how much.
Now, your tummy issues. Are you going to the bathroom regularly? When I go to raw from eating mostly cooked, I use the bathroom frequently, and then I have a period where I almost feel bloated, and my bathroom trips are not as frequent. When I feel more bloated, I drink more water, and eat more fruit, greens, and green tea.
I know I am interested in learning more about our history of what people ate long ago. I am very, very interested in eating foods that are only in your area, and seasonal. or what about foraging? So many things to make my head go a bit stir crazy. So, in the mean time, I love what raw does for me, and I'll continue to eat this way with some cooked variations. Don't worry so much about others who are into finding the negatives on foods. It is THEIR passion, and what is right and wonderful to them. Take what you need from message boards, and websites, and leave the rest.
I do love doing the megadosing but dont enjoy the sleepless nights. I get really bad insomnia when I mega dose. I try to switch it up every week or so by doing the minimum and then the max. Seems to work well for me!
Wallowa Co, well I don't think you could have picked a more beautiful place to live. I can't WAIT to go to Wallowa Lake this summer! I love telling people in other parts of the country about the deer and elk that just walk up to you there because they are not allowed to hunt. It just might be my husbands favorite place in the world. I'm from La Grande--pretty big around those parts since it has a Wal-Mart :) As for being vegan in the military, it might be hard sometimes--but I'm not in anymore. My husband eats raw when he's at home (which isn't often anymore) but is no way vegan when he's deployed. It will be interesting to see what they have to eat over in Africa. He ate MRE's (meals ready to eat) for a week not too long ago and they pretty much wreak havoc on anyones system--yuck!
Definately glad I found you on here. It seems like we will be facing a lot of the same hurdles along the way to optimum health.
yoohoo, anyone still there? Anyways, I should be on my nineteenth day of raw, but it didn't happen that way, and instead this is my 9th day of raw. I really feel it's starting to get easier for me now though. Right now, doing a persimmon island :) It's okay to post if you've gotten off track this month... ;)
today.... just persimmons! I reckon I'll have about 15 by the time I go to bed, but I'm trying to have just three meals of them. So far, I had five for lunch. (Was not hungry until 1p.m.)
me too Deborah. Also yesterday i read (upon doing an msm google search) that loads of (non-raw) peeps gained weight while on msm, which is my experience too. Also loads of women's boobs enlarged!
me too!!
Ive had people think I was totally smoked out high, when I had just had a green drink. I cant stop laughing, i feel so euphoric. its the serotonin.
Maybe he could also look into the mental aspect of wanting, craving and hungering for that many meals a day.
I think it has to come from within, if he wants to transistion - he will slowly find his way and what works out for his body and mind.
my old roommate, used to be the same, eating tons and tons of cooked vegan food. and he did loosed weight at first while transistioning and detoxing, but has leveled since.
and he has really found how a lot of his eating was emotional, even though he felt real hunger at the time and had a high metabolism.
The longer I've been raw the more my body just doesn't desire cooked food.
Years ago when I'd had a rough day and wanted to fill myself with my pizza, chocolate or cheese I would make a gourmet raw meal with heaps of flavours. Sometimes even making a huge batch of raw coleslaw would suffice. I would allow myself to spend more money on food and make a jar full of raw cookies and biscuits. Or make a simple raw chocolate mousse loaded with berries.
These days when I've had a bad day I don't think about the cooked stuff, or about loading up on raw treats. It's become easier for me to simply meditate, play piano, listen to my favourite music or go for a drive.
I've been using just 1 teaspoon of MSM in my morning lemon water for about 6 months. I noticed within weeks that my hair and nails had grown and my skin was glowing.
I recently embarked upon a 3 week megadose cleanse. I stopped because I was displaying quite strong detox symptoms and it was unpleasant. I'm going to do another megadose cleanse starting next week.
excited to join this topic. Our bodies are a gift from God and we should treat it as such. I've rededicated my life to Christ and I want to live a more virtuous, prosperous, and fullfilling life. I know that if I take care of the temple that GOD has graciously blessed me with, I know that I am abiding by his word and will.....I am a new Rawie and I am excited about this venture. I have researched and purchased great books about the Raw journey. My Excalibur is on order and I can't wait to make all of these great recipes for myself and family. I know that some of the foods aren't going to be to my liking but I know that most will.
Nice to meet everyone here and can't wait to hear all about your experiences as well.
Thank u! I can't wait!...especially for more glowing skin. I've already stopped wearing makeup (other than a little mascara) because my complexion is getting better.
Thank you everyone for commenting..
Mysterie - it's so encouraging to hear of someone else that is going through the same process that I am. I also have cut my drinking waaaay down to once or twice a month. I think eventually I won't drink at all. It's ok that we are half way around the world from each other...Let's keep in touch so we can be supportive on each other's progress!
RubyRae - WOW..I can't believe we both joined this site around the same time. I think I'm safe to say on here that I live in Wallowa Co. *I'd love to read a post on hunting and your brother and law and his Elk* Saturday I am going to a Hunter's Banquet which I call a Meat Fest. HA! I will be bringing a salad to share. =) Our family moved here only a year ago. We moved here to get away from the rat race and to eventually homestead (to an extent)..we are getting the supplies for a big green house right now and we just started an organic compost..I'm VERY excited about having all my own fresh veggies and fruits next season...someday I'd like to grow a garden all year long. Buying veggies and greens here is very expensive and I buy alot. I'd like to become as self-sufficient as possible.
Sorry to hear about your dad...and I know how impossible family can be when it comes to diet. I'm going down to see family in California next week and I'm sure my Dad and I will get into it over Turkey dinner. I would think being vegan in the military might be a little difficult as well?? My step-dad is a retired 30-year Marine. He eats horribly and he wil never change. We definitely need to stay connected so we can be support for each other in this meat eaters part of the country. =)
Raw Mermaid... I was wondering how you are... just found your blog... and the comments... I realize this was a while ago... Are you still having the challenges that you had with your skin... would love to know how you made out... I have a company called Loving the Planet... and we are always looking, researching and watching out for people who have felt as though they have exhausted their resources to heal themselves... and then they find just the right solutions through healthy living, through vegan, vegetarian, and raw diets. I'm having 10-20 oz. green juice every hour or so but I ran out and had about 7 bananas or so just now. Continuing with green juice for the rest of the day . Probably will do more bananas but still high green juice tomorrow. The bananas help since I don't stop my exercise for anything, even on juice feasts. :)

GREENS!! :D I would only do a feast of green juices. I think other types don't have the same effect.

How do you store whole flax seeds? Do you refrigerate them or in a jar in the pantry?

Hi! Just joined GoneRaw, great to see a Christian group here!! We recently moved from San Diego to Walla Walla, WA. Any Raw Christians in Eastern WA?
Just moved to Walla Walla, WA from San Diego. Would love to find other raw foodies in our area! :-)
