I'm surprised that B12 from animals is from synthetic sources. Doesn't this vital vitamin occur naturally in anything?
I might have been drinking too little water in my attempt to avoid comfort breaks every few minutes.
Sadly, I'm well past marketable age and in addition to all the other expenses, I'm paying for education and career development for four children. So, the change of job is out. But well done to all the young ones who are living healthily now. Although you are enjoying the benefits now, you will enjoy them much more in twenty years. I'm striving to put right all those years of idiocy. I agree with listening to my body. Unfortunately, you never lose your addictions, which often go back for generations. Perhaps, it's best to keep the brain out of it. That's the thing that remembers past pleasures and shuts out the accompanying effects.
I shan't go for all raw (especially after causing chronic toothache today after crunching on a carrot). I have begun to have a bit of high fibre rice (which takes a very long time to cook slowly). In general, I shall do raw for breakfast and lunch, and gently cooked evening meal.
And I shall continue to scrutinise the forums for tips.
I am open to host retreat and just looking to go to one. Visiting Maui Hawaii doesn't look to work out this time :(, but I do want to go for next chance!!
Thank you about information, I think it is also good idea that checking out raw food restaurants in big city!!! I will research more about that!!!! :):):)
hi Deborah, i was taking about 2 full teaspoons a day. ive stopped taking it now since i was informed on gitmr that my Holland & barett powdered brand may not be raw or good to use.
I greatly appreciate all these wonderful posts on the never ending health benefits of eating raw. They continually help me yo stay on the path. Thank you so much.
Thank you for posting! This is very encouraging. I was raw for several months but fell off the wagon hard after being in the hospital last week. I was even eating a small amount of meat because it was being cooked and I was nauseated and I just wanted nothing to do with food. It was easy to eat it and be full after a very small amount. I've slowly been coming back around and craving juices and raw foods, but I think I will take it slowly this time and stay with some cooked items. It's hard to stick with it when I worked so hard to be 100% raw in a balanced way and still ended up very ill. I'm still discouraged, but this helps me be motivated to at least be high raw.
I second what Erin says... I switched to 811 very quickly after going raw (just two weeks or so), but since then, I've been able to eat lots and still lose weight
Hello again everyone :) I used to post in this thread a while back. I was wondering if anyone could reccomend some inspiring passages or paslms to read. Lately I have been feeling very stressed (college applications!) and the changing of seasons is getting my down. Thanks!
Hey Deborah, I have been raw on and off (mostly on) for over a year. I too was finding that it was VERY easy for me to gain weight if I ate just a little bit too much or a little bit too much sugar, just like you were saying. I was also experiencing some health issues that I was trying to heal and having no luck with. So I fasted for 3 days and just really paid attention to my body and asked the universe/spirit/whatever you want to call it to show me what I needed to do to heal myself. And within a few days I heard about the 80/10/10 diet from several different directions. So I said, well maybe this is what I need. I've been eating this way for 5 days or so now and have already lost 4 pounds and have LOTS of energy and my candida overgrowth symptoms are clearing up nicely.
If you aren't familiar with the 80/10/10 diet, you can go on youtube and look up dr. doug graham. You can also just do a search on the internet for 80/10/10 and you will be able to find some information about it. Basically, it's a low fat raw vegan diet and consists of minimum 80% of calories from carbs, max 10% from fat, and max 10% from protein.
Before trying this I thought, there is no way I can eat that much sugar! It's just too much b/c when I eat even a little bit too much sugar I feel horrible! But then I learned that the reason why I was feeling so bad was b/c I was eating too much fat in conjunction with the sugar. If we don't eat so much fat, our bodies handle the sugar wonderfully.
So it's just something to check out and see if it is for you if you haven't already.
that is fantastic, chilove! you are an inspiration to those of us (like me) who are still working toward more consistent raw eating habits. how exciting to know the amazing health benefits that are possible if we can just keep at it. you rock! thanks for sharing. :)
I'm high raw and have lost a bit of weight since eating this way but have noticed that if I overeat or eat poorly, my stomach really balloons and I look pregnant. Beacuse I'm pretty skinny, my stomach looks much more promenant than it used to. I really don't like this but try not to get too hung up on it. If I put wieght on, it goes straight to my stomach. My Mum is the same so I think it's just genetics.
From my experience, I've noticed that if I eat high GI foods I put weight on more easily. I bloat much more easily when I poorly food combine. If I make a recipe that calls for lots of nuts or seeds I seem to put weight on too. I find that if I overeat I easily gain weight.
Things that have helped me lose/ stay at a constant weight are incorporating green smoothies into my daily diet, avoiding large amounts of high GI foods, eating only when I'm hungry and generally not eating so much nuts and seeds.
I have to remember that my body is different to what it was 2 - 3 years ago and I don't require the same quantity of food that I used to.
I'm very interested in if anyone else has had a similar experience or knows exactly why this happens? I've searched the internet but I can't find much information on this topic.
I've been thinking about taking MSM for ages. But... I'm on anti-depressants at the moment, which I hope to come off as I look further to diet to relieve my depression and anxiety... so my question is; can I start taking MSM while I'm still on anti-depressants or should I wait til I'm off them?
I love steam baths.
I love to sit and meditate for maybe 20-30 minutes depending on my mood.
One thing I always make sure to do is make sure my skin doesnt dry out after im done.
Ive noticed that I lost weight with raw foods at first, but now ive gained a bit back.
Im thinking it has more to due with food combining, which i have been ingoring lately.
Im curious to hear about others experiences with this too!
Hey everyone, thanks for the input! I am not trying to convert him to raw, only if he wants to. Just want to provide meals that will keep him full and are highly nutritious, and eventually want to cut processed food (mostly things like soy products and so much wheat!) from our household! He has a Type 1 diabetic child so it's ultimately for him that I would be doing this. I'm in charge of the kitchen anyway, so I get to pick what everyone eats ;)
I have been working to cut down my shopping bills recently. I've found that I'm just buying whatever fruit is on offer and trying to eat more simply in a bid to cut costs. I only buy nuts/seeds when they're on a 2 for 1 offer, etc.
Having said that, it was my birthday the other week and I went to a lovely health food shop and treated myself to a few expensive items I've been wanting to try for ages. I was like a kid in a candy shop! My BF thinks I'm so sad for getting excited over spirulina, maca, carob pods, raw choc bars, etc.
More good advice. Thank you, all.

lulushka8, how much MSM were you taking when you noticed the weight gain?
iliveyourdream, I don't particularly enjoy the sleepless nights either! I'll try your technique.

I also am a fan of steam rooms and saunas. I meditate whilst in there, it's incredibly relaxing.
There should be instructions on the wall outside the steam room.
As soon as you start feeling that you have to leave, leave.
I usually stay in there for around 45 minutes.
