I wonder the same thing about non-dried dates. Like they're supposed to be awesome and yet nowhere to be found - at least not where I am.
But back to cashews...http://www.upayanaturals.com/Cashews_WHOLE_2_2_lb_bag_RAW_CERTIFIED_ORGANIC_p/nfl-0515.htm
you can order "truly raw" cashews from them and theirs are supposedly sweet. Maybe it depends where the cashews are from and when they're harvested?
Hey thanks... yeah I should probably be eating more fruit . Joannabanana- are you doing the 80-10-10 diet? Do you eat nuts, or oil ever? I am supposed to be eating coconut oil due to a thyroid condition, but I don't really eat that much- maybe a couple of tablespoons a day. Will try to fill up on fruit! And Raw Crossfitter, what do you do with the flax? Mix it into things? I definitely need to eat more flax seeds... they make everything taste flaxey though ;) Will keep trying! Thanks!
It's not that I have any "problems", its that they are processed and not technically not "raw". And I was a little off in that the cashew itself is not toxic, but the shell is. But actually they are quite bitter "raw". Have you have ever had a really "raw" cashew? My wife is Brasillian and I have been to Brasil on several occasions and I am quite familiar with cashews. Actually in Brasil, the juice from the fruit of the cashew is more popular than the "nut" and it tastes great. I'm not sure why it has never become popular here.
I see quality protein intake as a problem for many Vegan Raw Fooders. I'll have to admit I do consume some free range organic eggs and certain kinds of fish, so I am not a Vegan, but i do find the use of hemp protein to be beneficial. I also consume organic flax seed(which I grind) , flax seed oil, and coconut and coconut oil. I find all these help with my strength and endurance. I am 44 and compete with athletes half my age so I am probably doing something right.
This month I have been focusing on my health and searching for info on nutrition and to my wonderful surprise I happen upon the trail of Raw and all it's glory. I am so excited to begin eating a Raw diet. I am not able to go shopping again until the 1st of April but for March I had bought many fruits and veggies as I just love them so I am eating as healthy as I can for now. I cut out the soda pop, sugar and bread. I want to thank everyone for their posts to one another because by reading them it has given me insight on how to start my journey (officially on the first) and I have gathered many fun recipes I can't wait to try.
Loads of love! AnneMae
i've noticed that if i keep my fat intake to 1/2 an avocado per day, i lose weight and fat. i've never looked very muscular even though i do a lot of strength training. i make sure breakfast and lunch are all fruit and i find that apples, bananas, and grapes always fill me up. and lots of them. breakfast and lunch could be applesauce (6 apples blended with dates) and then 4-6 bananas depending on how hungry you are.
What I'm gathering from all the posts here is that it takes a higher taste to replace a lower one. You can't just create a void by denying yourself something, you have to fill it with something better. Thank you all for your advice. I know like-minded community is important to me to make the the change, and there are no raw foodies where I live, so it's nice to come on this site and get support. Take care everyone :)
Probably not too long (no more than an hour) since they are made with coconut oil.
If you want them to be more stable at room temperature, you should substitute cacao butter for the coconut oil.
Chest pain or nausea, difficult breathing, overall discomfort and a pounding heartbeat. Minor mitral valve prolapse. Did you mention this to the receptionist when you made the appointment? If so, they should be ashamed of themselves for taking your symptoms so lightly! Please consider doing one of the following:
Call your doctor and tell them your symptoms. They should get you in today. If you have a local walk in clinic visit them (and tell them what your symptoms are first off), visit your ER (I think that's the one I would pick).
Eitherway, don't wait a week to get this checked out! If you where my family member, I think I would take you off to visit the ER. Your syptoms could be a sign of something very serious. I would go today. Just in case.
Don't let them tell you that it is JUST your diet, your weight, or indigestion. They need to prove that by testing you and ruling out stuff like heart, lung, or other organ problems. If you smoke (we all know you shouldn't, but that's another story) DON'T let them tell you it's just your smoking. They need to test you FIRST.
Once the docs have ruled out heart, lungs and other stuff (by testing) THEN start focusing taking care of yourself. You deserve to be fed good food, drink fresh water, and light exercise. Your worth it.
Get checked out today, then decide how you want to transition to a healthier life style.
I should have made more of a distinction between following 80/10/10 as percentage of diet and the diet described in the 80/10/10 diet book by Dr. Graham. It is true that a person could keep their protein and fat down to 10% and be no raw. It could also be done omnivore as well as vegan. (My answer was aimed more at the 80/10/10 raw diet because I thought that was what Shnicky was asking about.)
Listing "no grains" was in reference to the the book "80/10/10 diet by Graham. It's been a while since I read the book, and do not have it with me at the time, so I was going by memory. But, I do remember the book coming out pretty strongly against grains, onion, garlic or any time of condiment. Beans too I believe. This wasn't meant to say the diet was about restrictions. It was just summarizing the book. There is an abundance of fruit out there. A lot of variety of greens as well.
Low fat, high fruit diets don't all follow the Graham style (I believe I mentioned that in my other post). Usually when someone asks about 80/10/10 I assume they meant "that" book because it has such a following.

Yesterday-
Raspberry and banana smoothie
Massive heaped salad, loads of green, carrot, pumpkin seeds, lemon juice and oil
3 bananas
Another big salad, the same.
Today-
Banana, grapefruit and a small green salad.
...later I will have more heaped salad, possibly with some lentils or a sweet potato as I am on transition. With more fruit if hungry.
No, my hair is fine, I was just curious if anybody had noticed any differences. Thank you guys :)
..
This is so yummu recipe! So good, delicious....
Thanks for sharing this!

Hi rawspice, do you currently take any hormonal contraceptives or have a hormonal coil fitted?
Raw Spice,

I believe you have been correctly informed and that most nuts are not raw.
Actually, 80/10/10 isn't about restriction, number one.
And number two, it's not necessarily a raw plan, so if you're doing non-all-raw 80/10/10, steamed veggies and grains are eaten.
