Born and raised in rural Virginia, my omnivorous family taught me to always eat "right." However, I was constantly fed food under the notion that you can eat what you want, as long as it's labeled "fat free" or made from lean meats. My father's obsession over the way he eats and looks was passed down to me, but fortunately I have turned this neuroticism and obsession towards food into a positive aspect of my life. I haven't eaten meat since college, and have been vegan for 3 years before going on-and-off raw last year. The most difficult part of the raw lifestyle for me is being social with others and ignoring the comments people have towards my supposedly "extreme" diet. But I know deep down in my heart that it's right, it feels so good, and most of all makes me happy!
