I was raised on a home-cooked, organic, mostly local vegetarian diet. My folks grew a lot of their own food and we had dairy goats as well. As life moved forward, my parents reverted more and more to a ‘standard’ lifestyle and by the time I left home, the only thing my parents’ still had was an herb garden.
After desperately trying to “fit in” by eating meat in college, I’ve finally gotten back to my roots. Everyone in my family has a vegetable garden (my parents, my brother and his wife, and myself) and I raise chickens and bees and hope to add some dairy goats in the next year. So…I’m definitely not vegan!
After Thanksgiving 2007, I decided to go 100% raw vegan. I need to lose some weight and look forward to added health benefits. I’m not yet convinced that this will be my diet for years to come, but I can already say that is will most definitely influence my diet forever and I can’t imagine eating anything less than 50% raw for the rest of my life.
